SOURCE: 2004 KIA Optima LX timing belt/water pump

The thing is your doing the timing belt the water pump is right their with it . it should cost you much more at all besides the cost of the water pump. When doing a timing belt I have a rule that I go by The timing belt/seals =cam , crank , any pulley & tensioner & water pump all get replaced at the same time. I did a t-belt on a Audi A-8 very complex whole front of car has to come off as well, he didnt want to do w-pump & thermostat his thermostat was their as well not even a month later the water pump gave out he had to pay double the price because he didnt want to do it when I had it apart the first time. And make sure mechanic is ase certified . good luck

SOURCE: how to set timing marks when changing the timing

There is a DOHC or SOHC (double or Single overhead cam engone. Both are Similar. Both have a notch on back side of crank pully that aligns with a tab on engine just above crank pully looks like a triangle with the tip near crank pully is rounded off. SOHC engines have an arrow on cam pully that aligns with a point at top of timing belt rear housing. about straight up at top of it. DOHC have an I and an E on the cam pullys I for INTAKE and E for EXHAUST. the I and E match up at same type points on top of rear Timing belt housing. When installing belt make sure you do not move pullys. put belt on starting with cam shaft (s) then down to crank on tension side which looking at motor will be the right side or Clockwise direction keeping it tight no, or EXTREEMLY little slack. then back up around tensioner. Tensioner should be the last pully to go around. Once on make sure timing marks still lline up.Adjust tensioner and. rotate engine BY HAND 4 times and re check marks.

04 Kia optima... I replaced broken timing belt and the engine turns over but doesn't start

Did you make sure the belt was installed with the timing marks lined up properly? If you forgot to look at the timing marks it will not start and you may damage the engine trying to start it.

Need how to set timing belt on kia optima

I had 2006 kia optima 2.4 liter LX, I drove 150000 miles plus, it was over 100,000 miles I changed timing belt, and AC belt, alternator belt is still ok, but it was my fault, I did not change crank shaft balance belt, it next to timing belt, this very important, timing belt and crank shaft balance belt must change same time, you set all mark the same positions, you can see all clear marked
if you had OBD2 scanner is helpful to read all faulty codes if you do it your self repair
if you have any problems about KIA optima, please post on any websites, to share some ideas to other KIA optima owners, like me, I change oil every 2500 miles to make my optima runs smoother
automatic transmission fluid change every year if you put high mileage on your car, optima had hard time to find it own part some time, radiator hoses are still good condition and had hard time to find in any auto part stores in my home town, good luck and thanks for sharing.

Check for cracks or holes in the rubber hoses attached to the top of the engine. Get your hands dirty and feel along each hose for a bump, crack, **** and make sure each hose is tightly fitting on each end (pull on each end). If you find no holes and no hoses falling off then also check the large hose from the air filter to the throttle body to make sure it's on properly and clamps are tightened with a screwdriver. Also, did you replace the timing belt tensioner when you replaced the timing belt?

2004 KIA Optima Timing Belt Installation

I have never heard of a "timed oil pump" but there can be a first. Also the timing belt is supposed to be tight. Alot of cars are "interferance" motors. Which means if the timing belt goes all the rods stop where they are and the pistons continue there rotation resulting in smashed rods and valves. It should be very tight to get on, try wrenching on the tensioner when you put on the belt. Even get another person to do one while you do the other. Good luck.
