Yes it does, you could have tried to move steering wheel

Testimonial: "Yes I did and it turns I dont have an owners manual so I wondered if something broke."

Yes it is, the locking mechanism is broken. You key and steering lock, were very easy to steal. the lock was "punched" or pulled and started with a screwdriver.

SOURCE: 2002 saturn sl1 ignition switch lock up

Usually this can be temporarily solved with a shot of graphite lubricant into the key hole and moving the steering wheel side to side while turning the key. But, in the end, the ignition cylinder is wearing out and will eventually need replacing.

SOURCE: When shifting automatic trans in reverse theres a hesitation

I think what you were saying is your reverse slams, and only when you give it gas.
You can try to do the reverse slam fix, which is easy to do:
Reverse slam fix

If it doesn't work, your valve body is probably bad, here is how to swap it, in case you are up for the challenge:

sounds like an internal problem in the steering rack, the front end will feel tight on inspection but there will be a lot of play in the steering.

I have a 2000 SL1 Saturn and when I put the key in it will not turn. Is this the key mechanism or what???

Try turning the steering wheel to the lock position, in either direction, while you try to turn the key. This is a common issue. There is torque from the steering wheel column that is binding the lock cylinder.

How do you take out a dimmer switch on a 1995 Saturn?

the dimmer switch is in the multifunction switch, mounted in the column under the steering wheel. you need a special set of tools to get the wheel off, and to deal with the airbag in the steering wheel. get a repair manual, it most likely is going to cost what the car is worth to buy and replace the switch.

Key will not turn over on my saturn 2002 sl1

Have you tried turning the steering wheel while turning the key? I know you said it's locked, but they usually have a little play in them, sometimes when it's turned as far as the lock will let it the ignition will be put in a bind. If that doesn't help the only other option I can think of would be to replace the ignition set yourself, you'll get new keys and save yourself a trip to the dealer.

I have a 95 Saturn SL1 and the ignition switch won't turn. I've sprayed a little penatrating oil in the keyslot and that didn't work. What do I do next?

Hello voss_rod,

I have a Saturn too. Happens all the time. The last time you turned the vehicle off the wheel was turned one way or the other. When the steering locked, the wheel trying to center itself put a lot of tension on the key cylinder.

The Fix:
Which ever way the wheels are facing (however slightly), turn the wheel a little more in the same direction while trying the key. It will only take the slightest movement of the wheel to release the tension and allow the key to turn.

If you find this helpful, take a second and rate this solution. I'd sure appreciate it.
