Sounds like you have some major fuse blowout issues. Ther are fuses under the dash, and fuses under the hood. But before you play with the ones under the hood, be sure to disengage the battery terminals. Check all the fuses. Check out the fuse layout to ensure you have all the ones you need. Can get replacement fuses at any autozone or whatever. This is the cheapest and easiest start to finding out your problem. It is time consuming, but you may also find out any other problems before they hit you at a later time. IE, for ford explorers, there has been a problem with the rear wiper motor going out and causing a battery drain that will kill it within 24-36 hours if the fuses are not pulled for the rear wiper motor. Hopefully this helped some. If not, I am sorry to say it may be a more expensive fix. Sounds electrical, I know autozone will do a free power diagnostic check on the truck. After that, good luck!

Sounds like either your speedometer cable, your nylon gear on the side of the tranny where the cable ties in, or the odometer itself is shot. One of those three will set you straight. If you are able, remove the cluster, take the cable off the back, and pull it out of the sheath. You will see if its broken or not from there. If not, slide it back into the sheath, then you have to find out where the sheath meets the tranny, and pull it off of there. Then, you can get someone else to watch the speedo as you turn the cable from the bottom. If it works, great, if not, then its your cluster/odometer/speedo. If it does work, the small gear in the transmission is shot.

I have a 1985 fiero and had the same problem. Fiero do not have a speedometer cable the speed is sent from a governer on the tranz to the gauage. So in short the gauage needs to be replaced.

it may have a static charge in the instrument cluster, try un-hooking the battery then turn the key on and even hit the brakes to try to drain the spark out of the system, hooking the 2 cables together with the battery disconnected may work as well to drain it.hook up the battery and see what happens, but make sure the key is off and nothing is on-lights,radio,wipers etc,it could send a spark to the computer.
