Well as a mechanice for many years if your using RTV silicone as a gasket you wanna put the RTV on the cover let it setup for 3 minutes and hand tight each bolt first. then with a ratchet two finger tight on each bolt snug each one. the RTV will squeeze out and as long as each bolt is tight it will not leak. just yet the RTV cure for 15 minutes before filling diff

1 MIN IS CUTTING IT CLOSE BUT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE IT. TORQUE SPECS SHOULD BE 14 TO 15 FOOT LBS.

Suggest to remove cover and replace gasket with Permatex Gasket Maker Silicone. Fully clean and dry apply a 1/4 bead on cover and bolt down to 20 ft lbs. go around several times to compress silicone. Let silicone cure 30 minutes then refill.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove the crankshaft vibration damper.
  3. Remove the generator drive belt tensioner assembly.
  4. Remove the timing belt front cover bolts, and remove the covers.


rear cover
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove the front covers.
  3. Remove the timing belt.
  4. Hold the camshaft sprocket with Special Tool 6847, or equivalent, while removing the center bolt.
  5. Remove the timing belt idler pulley.
  6. Remove the rear cover fasteners and remove the cover from engine.

If i run a different type of fluid in my front differential on a 1992 jeep wrangler,will it make a difference

If the fluid does NOT meet the original fluid specs, then save up for new differential. Otherwise, you should be OK - double check it though. I have no idea what fluid you're thinking of using.
