Only just bought it and it was fine on test drive. Collected car drove up road to refuel and now the dreaded warning light is on :-(
If you bought from a car dealer take it back as you should have warranty.
It could have been reset by the seller and then it will return on and re report the error in the storage file on the obc usually after between 1 and 60 miles driven. have someone analyze it most auto parts store will do that for u.
SOURCE: refueling
this is caused by the fuel not flowing into the tank smoothly i have only run into one other car that did this. what i did to fix the problem ( i loosened the clamps around the ruel filler hose and wiggled it farther on the tube . it didnt move more than 10mm but it made all the difference. ) without seeing yours im not sure it will fix the problem but its worth a try.
SOURCE: ECU engine management warning light
There is a problem, it needs to go to a factory service center, it can be any one of multiple reasons that turns this light on.

SOURCE: 2003 Chevy Impala won't start after refueling
There is a couple of problems with Impala's. Crank relay ($15) is unreliable. Lift hood it's on the passenger side under plastic panel and just plugs in. There are some issues with the pass code. Rather than take to a dealer, first place key in ignition and turn to the on position and wait 10 minutes. Often the pass code corrects. There are some issues with the ignition switch in particular with a heavy set of keys. Try blowing some compressed air into the keyhole and using just the ignition key by itself.
SOURCE: very slow to fill fuel tank. refuel hose nosel
on your fuel tank their is a vent line from the tank that comes back up to the main fuel inlet line that is to let the air from an empty tank escape while fuel goes in, if that vent is not working properly then the fuel cannot go in quickly because the air in the tank has no where to go. The hose is made of rubber and may have become fatigued and kinked on a sharp corner. You will have to go underneath the vehile and inspect where vent line from where it exits the tank and goes back up to the main inlet line. You may have to replace the line.
Testimonial: "thanks for the info, will investigate this possible cause."
The check engine light/service engine soon (yellow light) comes only when the computer control unit (called the PCM) senses a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system u will seldom feel the car engine run any different, there are about 200 possible faults that turn the light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores do this testing for free.
