2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4x4 Limited V8 4.6L Instrument cluster went dark. Gauges work. All lights and digital display do not work. Turn signal indicators do work.

It went out one day but came back on briefly for a few hours the next day and went dark again. At one point the display blinked on at 3-second intervals along with the security light on the dash at the windshield. Is this something that can be repaired, or does it require a new replacement cluster?

SOURCE: Won't start

Check the battery cables make sure they are clean and tight. Make sure the battery has at least 12V, new batteries sit on the shelf for months sometimes before they are purchased. If this yields no results, remove the starter and have it checked. If it checks bad, replace the starter.

SOURCE: Brake light, reverse light and turn signal issues

Hello. The symptoms you are describing are likely due to a poor ground. Temporarily install a new ground wire by securing a piece of copper wire to the frame with a self tapping screw. Use this ground wire along with the hot wire to see if each of these lights works. If it does, trace the ground wire back to the frame, unscrew it and clean up the metal with emery cloth so you reestablish a good ground.

2005 explorer sport trac instrument cluster and odometer intermittent failure?

Pull the instrument cluster out of the dash check all the connectors to it for loose pins and also take a look at the printed circuit on the back of the panel, look for any obvious problems. More than likely just pulling the connectors and reinserting them several times may cure this problem.

I'm having about the same issue. I've traced it to a problem behind the instrument panel/cluster. You will need to or have a mechanic pull the instrument panel and check to see what is causing the gauges to malfunction. I can tap on the instrument panel and everything comes back. There is a short of some sort. When I find out more, I'll post. Good luck

Direction on how to replace instrument cluster light burned on 2001 ford sport trac

  • Pry the plate around the radio/heat controls off.
  • Disconnect the 4WD switch connector at the switch.
  • Disconnect the foglight switch connector at the switch.
  • Disconnect the rear wiper switch connector at the switch, if equipped.
  • Remove the panel surrounding the cluster itself. Bolts above the steering wheel in the shroud.

  • If you have a warning light out, replace it with a PC74 bulb.
  • Installation is reverse of removal. TEST BEFORE YOU PUT EVERYTHING BACK IN.
You're done.
