My 2005 Saturn ion won't shift into reverse... It just grins and pops out

The problem is most likely on the transmission range selector switch, this is on th top of the transmission and has a multi-wire connector going to it, a shaft goes through it and the trans shift cable is connected there.

When I first bought my Redline the shift knob kept coming off in my hand. Actually it flew off and would end up on the floor somewhere.

When I complained about this, they fixed the problem, and they told me that they drilled a hole through the shifter shaft up to the knob end and inserted a long bolt. They said this was the procedure to resolve this issue.

If you are having a problem removing the knob, its probably because they repaired this issue before the dealer delivered the car. Judging by their remarks to me it was not an easy repair and I'm assuming to change the shift knob would be a very difficult task.

It may be complicated, depending which radio you have. UC1 or US9, US8. The owners manual should have all the info you need. You do have the radio code, right? If not...you will need to visit the dealer. If you have the code, the radio must be on for 1 hour and then it will unlock when it reads - - - - , and you can put the code in. Its not your girlfriends fault. ; )

Check to make sure the button on the trunk latch is turned from manual unlock...they made that feature so only the key will work to open the trunk that way if someone breaks in the front of your car they can't hit the trunk release and get into the trunk...may be the same thing for your remote.
