How old is this vehicle? Some American vehicles in the 80's and 90's actually had a magnetic sensor that read the rotational speed of the front drive shaft yolk and converted it to forward speed to be read on the speedometer. Others used a magnetic sensor that read the rotational speed of the external alternator fan and, again, converted this to forward speed to be read in the speedometer. Just a thought.
l get what yu saying but this is a 2009 model and am not sure where to check.

well you can but it is a bit more difficult than that as you will need allignment tool to replace and also the might be excess tension and you might need a pulling tool also to remove. it is very unusual that the mechanism drops into the gearbox though? well without effecting the performance of gearbox such as whines and creaks?

IT IS SEPERATE FROM ENGINE THERE IS A FILLER BOLT AT FRONT OF BOX DRAIN PLUG IS AT THE BOTTOM NEAR THE OUT UT SHAFTS DRAIN IT AND REFILL WITH A SYNTHETIC CASTROL AUTO TRANS FLUID THIS WILL IMPROVE YOU GEAR SHIFTS
