Had a similar problem on Vauxhall Astra recently. MT2500 said cam sensor. Turned out to be ECU not communicating with the sensor. Cost a bomb I'm sorry to tell you.

Hello, Need some assistance figuring out what is wrong with our BMW 2003 5.5ii series, in which had the following engine detections:

Is this a v8 engine, or straight six

The upstream o2 sensor for your bank 2 exhaust is not getting proper voltage or any voltage at all. Most likely dead.

Camshaft sensor is getting weird voltages, most likely from the engine underperforming due to the o2 sensor reading.

Misfire is most likely happening because the engines running lean, most likely again from that bad o2.

After that o2 sensors replaced and your running again, you might have to address the running issues of the engine which caused it to go bad in the first place. Which is a lengthly diagnosing process.

06 bmw 525i codes p0174, p0171, p1338, p0340, p0365, and p1315

codes p 0171 and 174 refer ti system too lean
codes p 0338,340,365 refers to crank. and can shaft position sensors
code p1338 again is camshaft position sensor
code p1315 again is camshaft position sensor
too lean can be from fuel pump pressure too low
and position sensors can be wiring , connections sensors.
Involved in all these , one of the possible causes is the ECM
IF it is possible get a serviceable replacement ECM unit and substitute it first as there is no point in replacing all the rest if the ECM is faulty
could be water in the connections , corrosion etc
it is always suspect when so many different codes suddenly appear at the same time

After diagnostics on my 2003 bmw 318 coupe, camshaft sensor error showed up to be the problem.my car struggles to start and keeps cutting out whilst driving..will replacing the sensor solve this problem?

Hi there,

You are correct...

Your vehicle's ECU relies on data received from the Camshaft sensor, to determine correct engine timing etc etc. It's also important to note that often camshaft sensor errors are closely related to crankshaft sensor problems also.

Recommend you disconnect the the Camshaft Sensor plug and do a test accross the terminals. If the measurements are not to factory specification, replace the sensor then clear the code. If the engine still cuts out, continue to query the diagnostics until problem is solved.

Can u tell me what the problem of this code PO340

I have a 1999 BMW 740 il My SES light came on so I hooked up my OBD code reader p0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction is what came up. so I went to the BMW parts department and bought the Camshaft Position Sensor.
I Replaced the with the new. My SES light was still on so I hooked up the OBD reader again hoping it may reset my SES light but it didn't what did happen is the OBD reader came up with the same code (p0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction) witch is what I just replaced. now I'm at a loss. I'm not sure how to reset my SES light and if I just replaced the Camshaft Position Sensor why dose it the OBD code p0340 still come up. Any suggestions?

I agree with you it does sound weird!
What year of manufacture is your vehicle?

If the scanner reads fault codes, they are in relation to faults which should be attended to. Just erasing the fault codes from the scanner does not repair the faults.
The fault should be fixed and then the code can be erased....Once that is done the code should not come again.
The most likely problem is the fuel system, in particular the fuel pump or maybe the fuel filter.
It would be really good to know which fault codes were picked up on the scanner?
A defective camshaft sensor can bring the car to a stop, as can a defective crankshaft sensor.
I believe a visit to a reputable workshop would help you
I cannot think of any reason why the engine would have to be dismantled. It may be required to remove certain parts from the engine, but certainly not taking it apart.
hope this is helpful?

Check engine light bmw 325i code 340

Code PO340 "Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction". Now that does not mean that if you simply replace the sensor your problem will be solved. It can be simply loose, cut, or corroded wiring. It can also be something entirely different. This is where diagnostic skills come in.

I have a 2000 buick lesabre. The fix engine soon

It NEVER was the camshaft sensor! Unless, you've removed the engine lately, which I doubt.
RUN to Advance Auto Parts and buy a can of "SeaFoam" and add to your gas tank per instructions...drive at least 100 miles and the problem should go away...IF it doesn't you'll have to replace the O2 sensors in the exhaust system...Any good mechanic should be able to do this for much less $$ than the dealership DO NOT go to the dealer for repairs!
Good Luck

I have a 2000 323i. We have error code P1520. Which is Camshaft postion sensor bank 1 (exhaust). I replaced it and cleared the code. However, I drove it and the check engine light stayed off, until I...

i would not try the crank sensor just yet first off they **** to replace properly and you wont want to do that just yet, make sure it is the same code that has come back on as far as the banks are concerned on that enging the m52 the front 3 cly are bank 1 and the back 3 are bank 2, so unless it is talking about O2 sensors that is irrelivant, are you sure you replaced the correct sensor? it is the on in front on the engine with NO wire tail on it make sure it is plugged in correctly, this car is VERY good at knowing the difference between a cam sensor and a crank sensor the other guy does not know what he is talking about
