SOURCE: 1997 Toyota corolla - warning noise when lights left on - not working on drivers side!
The ground circuit for the driver side door switch is compromised, or the door switch is bad. Try this: Remove the black rubber cover from the door swich. Using a 10 millimeter wrench or socket, loosen & tighten the switch retention bolt. See if the dome light flickers. If so, the ground on the switch is bad, & just needs cleaned up. If not, remove the switch, and touch the wire behind the switch to the body,or the bolt hole. If the dome light lights, you need a door switch. Your problem is entirely in the door switch/ground/wiring. Hope this helps, and thanks for choosing FixYa.

There is a plastic garnish surrounding the instrument cluster held in by 2 philips head screws. remove the screws and gently pry the garnish from top first then sides then it should pull out.
Then remove the 3 screws holding the cluster in place (2 bottom 1 top). Once that is done gently flip the cluster bottom up and pull out some to expose the wiring harness. Remove the 3 connectors from the back and then the cluster will pull out.
There are 3 bulbs that control the overall lighting of the cluster. They are spaced about every third across the rear of the cluster. They are the larger Green knobs. Remove the 3 large green knobs and replace the bulbs with the appropriate size. You can call your local parts store to find out the size.
Its a 5 minute job and does not require the entire removal of the dash board.

SOURCE: wondering if a 1998 toyota corolla will fit in a 2000 corolla
In 1998 the 1zz-fe engine was intoduced. Toyota only added variable valve timing in the 2000-2002 1zz Corolla engines. Same engine same parts and components
Computers should not need swapped but you could go to the dealer and ask for the part number for 1998-2002 ECU's for Corolla. This is the electronic control modul on the car that runs the engines. It is usually located under the dash by the passengers side glove box.

Loose wire in ignition key slot, why does the car normally beep, keys left in car, lights on after turning off, etc....check those things first before going to dealership or repair shop.
SOURCE: 2005 Toyota Corolla Car Alarm Problem
you may have to disconnect the battery for a minute or so ,this will reset the alarm. check your remote it does have a battery in it. otherwise you have to look for a fuse somewhere under the dash close to the fuse box.each one is diff. depending if it original toyota or aftermarket alarm.
