2004 Toyota 4Runner, The VSC TRAC and the VSC OFF are on and I don't know what the cause is. The Check engine light was also on and after reading the code, it was an O2 sensor. I replaced the sensor and now the check engine light is off but the VSC TRAC and VSC OFF lights remain. There are no codes showing and I am at a loss. Any ideas?
Thank you.
I have a 2002 4runner and my issue was the same although my check engine light was on as well. I read a lot and tried several things before I actually solved the issue. I first cleaned out my throttle body. Then cleaned my mas airflow sensor. This resolved the issue for a week or so but ultimately the light returned. The engine code was P0128 which indicates a few possible issues which are included at the bottom of this answer.
My issue was a faulty thermostat. I did the repair myself and it turned out to be very simple once I figured out all the pitfalls. I've posted the full answer under "4runner thermostat replacement" question.
Causes A code P0128 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: Low engine coolant level Leaking or stuck open thermostat Faulty cooling fan (running too much) Faulty coolant temperature (ECT) sensor Faulty intake air temperature (IAT) sensor Possible Solutions Past experience indicates that the most likely solution is to replace the thermostat. However here are some suggestions on troubleshooting and repairing a P0128 OBD-II code: Verify coolant strength & level Verify proper cooling fan operation (check if it's running more than it should). Replace if necessary. Verify proper engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor operation, replace if necessary. Verify proper intake air temperature (IAT) sensor operation, replace if necessary. If the above items check out good, replace the thermostat If Nissan vehicle, check for Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), as the ECM may need to be reprogrammed to correct the P0128 code Other ECT sensor and circuit related DTCs: P0115, P0116, P0117, P0118, P0119, P0125
