The sensor is part of the ignition lock cylinder on Passlock I and Passlock II systems. ( Where the key goes ), Good-Day!
it looks like a failure in the theft deterrent system, but Trailvoys contain Passlock security, not PassKey. Passlock consists of a hall-effect sensor and tamper resistor within the ignition cylinder housing, while the PassKey system uses a transponder in the ignition key head.
Passlock isn't affected by contamination of the key, but there are a number of things that can cause it to fail - high or low voltages, problems with the Passlock circuits, module communication failures...
Your best bet is to have the diagnostic trouble codes pulled - there are at least eight associated with Passlock failure
Turn the key to run position (engine not running) theft light will flash a few times and stay on. Leave for approximately 10 minutes (may take up to 20 min.) And the theft light will turn off. Repeat these steps 3 times. After the third turn the key off and attempt to start.
You will probably have to reset the passlock (security) system with the new switch/key. The aftermarket switches come with instructions to reset the passlock code.
If the light is flashing it may be an issue with the passlock sensor.Here is a process you can try to reset the passlock. Try to reset the passlock first. It's free and won't cost you anything to try. My car did the exact same thing and I didn't see the security light on..I'm not even sure it was on but, reseting the passlock fixed the problem. Look at dvj2a's solution.
