Sounds like the locking / latch mechanism is either locked or broken, try to remove the glove box after removing all the screws that secure the hinges on the glove box.

Every new radio came withe code cheek the documents that come with the radio you find four number or so turn the ignition and the radio on push the code in and the radio will come on ,all the best.

You should go to www.reliable-store.com they have got books on every vehicle and also how to service/repair it,
service/repair/owner's/maintenance manual with
parts info, fuse box, gear box, PCV, torque specs,coiling, wiring diagrams, electrical diagrams, fuse diagrams, error codes, etc everything

Go to YouTube and type: replace hhr door handle. You'll find a few videos of guys doing the replacement.
