I have a 2002 Chevy Malibu and I just got the thermostat replaced and but my car is still leaking coolant and getting hot. I think I've connected it to the fans not coming on when my engine would be getting hot. They come on fine when I turn on the ac but my car still gets too hot. I've checked the relays and they're all working. I've also realized that the heater only blows out cold air

Your fan motor might be fried... and check your coolant, they have a tool which measures its ability to do its job. you might need a radiator flush but start small... THe tool to make sure you anti-Freeze is good is very cheap. By one and test it (it tells you how to test it) then check your fuzes for your Radiator fans in your owners manual. if that is good take your fans off and have them tested. you need to get your fans working again even if you need to by new. And see if your car needs a coolant flush, ( a true flush not a drain and fill

the relays control circuit is grounded by ECM (computer) . to check this make sure the is hot enough for the fans to be commanded on by computer and check to see if you have voltage at relay and it has ground from computer . you may need ECM.
good luck
u need to buy the special coolant to your car i have the same car whit the same problem and is cause to the incorrent cooland the cooland to your car is the DEX-COOL if u dont find that u need some hit (silicate-free)

Assuming engine tune / mechanical condition is not the cause of the overheating:-
Ensure cooling fan is cutting in at the appropriate engine temperature - check operation of the fan controlling relay,
Ensure fan switching control temperature sensor is serviceable,
Ensure cooling system is filled properly, taking care to bleed out air where necessary,
Ensure coolant pressure cap is of correct rating and in serviceable condition,
Check coolant hose on suction side of waterpump is not softened and collapsing at engine revs above idle,
Ensure radiator core is not blocked or cooling airflow inhibited by insects etc.

Sounds like you have a faulty head gasket or maybe a cracked head. This can cause overheating and the check engine light to come on.The code for the o2 sensor is probably caused by coolant getting into the exhaust system and coating the sensor. The coolant fan may work but it cannot remove enough heat from the rad to make the engine cool off.Try some engine coolant stop leak to see if it will help. This maybe only a temperary fix.Let me know if you need more.MOE

The water may not be circulating enough to heat the coolant sensor or may have air in the system . A faulty new coolant sensor or stuck closed thermostat can contribute to this . Have you hooked a scan tool with live data to read what temperature the sensor is reading ?
