SOURCE: Low Oil pressure light in idle at stop

Depending on the amount of miles, maintenance records, or how hard the car has been driven either by a previous owner, or by yourself. The engine's main crankshaft bearings or the connecting-rod bearings could be excessively worn.

Also, it could very well be a wiring problem to the sensor and/or computer causing the problem.

SOURCE: low oil pressure

usually that could mean a failing oil pump....or a clogged pickup in the oil pan, could also mean you have a leak somewhere. the car shutsoff because it protects itself from killn itself

SOURCE: 2004 Grand Cherokee: oil pressure fluctuates

if you know for certain that the sending unit is correct and the guage is accurate, then yiu may have big problems.....while the engine is running open the oil filler hole.. is everything wet with oil? or does it look dry or just a little lubed? you can allways install an aftermarket oil pressure guage(crappy tire) if you get the same results with that then you may have a week oil pump....worst case scenerio... need an engine rebuild as the moter may have wear issues.does the pressure slowly drop as the motor warms up? at idle ? does it jump up when you step on the gas?

The computer in your explorer, will not let your truck , because of a blown head gasket or bad seals you need to have it fixed or get a different truck.

My low oil pressure on my 04 explorer limited keeps blinking and gauge go on zero when i slow down. But when i step on my gas it goes back to normal! Need help

It could be just a bad pressure sending unit, otherwise something may be restricting the oil flow (filter or intake plugged) or the oil pump may be going bad.

Why does it shut down while driving?

First, do not run engine low on oil. Next, run tests when it has failed. Spark to plugs? Correct fuel pressure?

My 2007 jetta started to shut down while driving. I was told intermittent ignition switch issue and RPM speed sensor problem They fixed sensor not switch but car was running wo shutting down untill today...

No, the issues are probably not related. If you are low on oil, you risk blowing your engine; that's why a tow was recommended. However, it's easier and cheaper to add oil... If you are getting a low oil pressure indication and you have a normal oil level, you should not run the engine until the problem is fixed (bad oil pump, blown or worn oil seal(s), etc.) Low oil level can result in low oil pressure, which damages the engine.

At this point, you may want to consider whether the vehicle is worth the cost of the repair. If it hasn't used oil before, the problem may be relatively simple - it could even be a faulty oil pressure sensor. But if it's blowing blue smoke or cylinder compression is way below specification, the engine is likely due for an overhaul or replacement.

If oil is old it loses it"s viscosity or thickness when hot, maybe renew oil even put higher viscosity oil in motor.

Engine shuts down after driving about 20 miles let cool down for 10 min. and it will go again

You didn't say whether or not the car is running hot so I'm guessing here. If it is running hot then the temp switch could shut it down for obvious reasons. So could the oil pressure switch. The oil pressure switch will shut your engine down if the oil pressure drops below a certain point. This is caused by lack of oil pressure. Lack of oil pressure can be caused by low oil level, weak oil pump or oil too thin to lubricate. If the engine is running hot that can thin out the oil to the point of no use to the engine. If you have a high mileage engine and are still using 5W30, 10W30 oil then try upgrading to 10W40, 15W40 or even 20W50.

Your engine could be running lean which would create a hot situation that would cool fairly quickly. If this isn't adressed you can look at catastrophic engine failure in your future.

You could also be looking at an internal problem such as warped heads, bad head gasket, worn out oil pump.

If it was my car, I would be taking to someone to find out the exact reason it is doing this. I would likely take it home and fix it myself but I think you should have a professional diagnose this more accurately. Hope this helps.

1990 toyota pickup is running hot and when i shut

Try with the small stuff first. Replace the thermostat. Before you do that, you should flush and refill your system with just water after the flush process. The bottle of solution that you put into your radiator to flush it and clean it has instructions, follow those. Then let the car cool down and drain the system and refill it with fresh water only. Run this water for a bit and then do it once more. Once cooled back down , replace thermostat and replace the 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water.
Check engine oil level as well, low oil will overheat engines quickly.

My 04 dodge 1500 keeps over heating when i turn the ac on or when im going up hills "why"

under maximium load your cooling system is struggling asuming you have an automatic transmission,it is cooled through the radiator, when running the ac your condenser is hot, right in front of the radiator,if your not leaking, and your anti-freeze looks bright green an clean ,and the fan or fans are working ,first change the thermostat, cheapest, remove the serpintine belt and inspect the water pump pulley, spin it by hand, try to tip it forward and backward,to see if it wobbles,it should spin smooth and quiet,if it has a chattering or growling feel,or the pulley wobbles change the pump, the only thing left is the radiator ,make sure that debri or something isnt stuck in front of it a small piece of paper is enough to restrict airflow, inspect the core is it turning green and the fins are falling out ,is the plastic shroud intact around it, lots of things could be going on ,the transmission could be low on fluid, and running hot, causing the excessive load on the radiator, disregaurd this if you have a manual.need more info to pinpoint further, hope this helps

Oil light blinks when I slow down

It sounds like the oil pressure is dropping at low speed. You may try to change the sending unit first sometimes that may fix it. Hot is going to be over 220 degrees.
