I have a 95 mercury grand marquis when I try to accelerate it acts as though it can't find the right gear. It did this once before and it was a vacume leak but that does not seem to be the problem this time

2006, mercury grand marquis with EATC issue while accelerating.

Hello Bryan,

You either have a horrendous vacuum leak... or a muffler or catalytic converter (collapsing) starting to block you exhaust system...

A decent exhaust shop with code readers ought to be able to tell...

You would most likely be tripping OBD (on board diagnostic)
codes around your fuel system, oxygen sensors... and getting poor power and mileage...

Certainly worth a look...

I was STRANDED twice: once by a muffler... and again 15 years later by a collapsed catalytic converter.

Tow truck time.

Good luck.

How to tighten the altinator belt

You might have the wrong belt. I just did this on my 92 Marquis and ended up with the belt for a 97. The gear layout was all wrong for the first. There was an additional wheel called the 'idler'.

No acceleration, chugging, lack of 'go'

It sounds like the transmission is bad or your rear end is bound right up and thats what is causing your motor to rev.Try jacking up rear end and putting it in gear and see if you can pin point where problem is.You may even have to tear rear end apart to see whats happened in the. Then move up to looking at the transmission..Hope this helps you and have a great day
