Every engine can... it happens when you try and restart the car... when the engine is running and the timing belt breaks everything is moving so it doesn't usually damage anything... when everything is stopped your piston slams into the valves and bends them. He'll of a big job

They are an interference engine, but you may have dodged a bullet. Once new belt is on, you may want to check, before going too much further.

For what it's worth, my info tells me it's a non-interference engine, so your o.k. but I will double check that & get back to you.

SOURCE: if the timing belt breaks does this shear or bend the valves on a

All Daewoo Engines are interference fit Engines. Which means that if the timing belt rips while the engine is running the pistons will hit and bend the valves and you will have to get new valves and possibly a new cylinder head. Worst case scenario you will also have to get a new engine block if for some reason chunks or pieces of valve, piston or cylinder head damaged the cylinder bore and cracked the block while things were moving around. Daewoo Timing belts are recommended to be replaced at 60,000 miles but it is best to replace them before 60k as some people have had their timing belts break on them as soon as 61,000 miles.

I agree with hotchevy.

This is catastrophic for the engine and there will be damage beyond the inevitable bent valves. This is the cost of poor preventative maintenance.
Rebuilding the engine will be expensive as will installing a replacement unit. Get some quotes but I suggest it's probably not worth it given the market value of the vehicle.

Does the Chevrolet optra 2004 2.0L Dtec 16 valve engine have an inference or non-interference engine?

The 2004 Chevrolet Optra features an attractive 2.0L Dtech 16-valve engine. In an intervention engine, valves and pistons share the same space in the combustion chamber, and if the timing belt (or timing chain) breaks or slips, valves and pistons are at risk of blowing, which can severe engine damage so it is important to adhere to the recommended timing belt replacement intervals to prevent such issues.

If this belt broke you have bent engine valves, di it break? Is this the DOHC engine like the one used in the Daewoo Nubria? If so read on.
Please access this link, I think it is the same exact engine. If not you can access the info for a fee here

Can you bend valves when belt brakes 2.5

Yes you can bend valves when the timing belt breaks. Without knowing the car call your dealer up and ask them if this is a problem for your year and make a model car. European and Japanese cars and also high performance cars are more likely to have this problem. But not all cars for instance most Ford escorts do not have valve interference problems. But if you replace the timing belt and the car Mises or backfires you probably have a bent valve. And you would need a valve job that this point. Good luck.

TIMING BELT BROKE

The timing belt connects the pistons and the head valves so that they all go up & down in the correct sequence. Turn over the engine with a broken belt and they could hit together - rather like hitting your fists together very hard.- and one or more of them could bend or break needing either replacement pistons, valves and/or head.
On the other hand you could have the luck of the devil and only need to line up the various timing marks and fit a new belt

Timing belt broke is this a collision engine. Does it bend the valves if the belt breaks.

No, you are extremely lucky. This is not an interference engine and no damage should have resulted from the belt breaking. The belt should be replaced every 60,000 miles on this engine.

Timing belt?

Hi there. What he is probably meaning is you have an interference motor to which means if the belt breaks it will bend the valves or if changing it and not getting timed right will also bend the valves. So if your doing it your self use extreme caution and make sure befor removal of the belt that the timing marks are aligned and the gears do not move until the belt is back on.Rotate motor over slow by hand with belt exposed 2 full revolutions to see if your timing marks a in fact dead on.. The mileage on the truck are close to time to replace. You dont want that thing breaking the belt while its running. You know the facts now.I hoped this helpes you and have a great day...
