If it isn't getting gas, possibly the fuel pump is defective.

Your timing belt might have busted. Mine did that in November of 2007.... I had to replace 2 of the 4 cylinders, along with the timing belt and housing. Total cost was a little over $1700.00

U are going to have to pull the gas tank out and replace the fuel pump inside the tank, this is common when you run the gas completely out, the pump is cooled by the gas it runs in, if u run it low allot it burns out the pump bearings very quickly.

ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM Passive anti-theft system
Your ignition key has a unique imbedded transponder which engages engine electronics and allows the vehicle to be started. Without the use of your special ignition key, the vehicle will not start.

During each vehicle start, the coded key is read by the anti-theft system. If the key’s ID code matches the code in the anti-theft system, the vehicle is enabled to start.

Why wont 97 expedition eddie bauer run after startup?

Have you checked the fuel pump for any blockage? The car isnt getting any gas unless u manually pump it by pressing the pedal.. So start there
Sometimes when a engine requires excessive revving and throttle to stay afloat its a fuel supply problem. A clogged filter for example can be overcome with excessive throttle that drives the fuel pressure up enough to force it through, but it will barely trickle at idle and stall.

Usually the dead give away for fuel pump is when someone complains they have to floor it as soon as it turns over or it will die right away.

2005 expedition, turned it off the other day and it wont start now turns over fine doesnt seem to be getting gas fuel pump 15 amp #12 fuse was burnt replaced it once and it burnt again, replaced it again...

Maybe but the pump in your tank may be bad and overloadind the fuse. When you turn on the key to on - not all the way to start position- you may be able to hear the pump running. OR NOT

How to shift into 4wd

Ford has 2 types of 4x4 system engagement. One is a knob on the dash that you just turn to 4wheel drive high or low. The other system is the 4x4 transfer case shift on the transmission tunnel (hump) between the driver and passenger seats. To shift into 4 wheel drive high while driving, just let off the gas and shift transfer case into 4H position, and continue driving. To shift into 4 wheel drive Low, stop the vehicle completely, put transmission in neutral, shift transfer case into 4Low position, put trans. in gear, and start driving. I am assuming before doing the above, you have locked in ( turned the front hubs to 4 wheel drive position.) Any further questions, let me know.

My 1997 ford expedition won't go into 4wd.

You need to specify if it's the high or low 4WD, or both that's the issue. Also, make sure it's not as simple as the indicator light not working but the 4WD is.

I had the same problem on my 2001 Expedition, and it could be a couple of problems. You've eliminated a fuse to the transefr case shift motor, so that's good. If the 4WD system is not used for extended periods it doesn't get oil circulated around the mechanism and it gets stuck. You need to press the 4WD button while the truck is stationary and pull away. You may have to do this a few times until it finally engages. When it kicks in run it in 4WD for a while to give the transfer case a good workout and it should loosen up. Follow the usual precautions about running in 4WD (especially low range) on pavement.

If this doesn't seem to fix the issue, your shift motor that engages the 4WD transfer case may be out. You'll have to get under the vehicle and test for 12V to the shift motor when it's engaged. You may want a dealer to do this for you as getting under a large vehicle when its being put into 4WD is extremely dangerous, even if it's up on stands on 4 corners (which is essential for this as no wheels should touch the ground). I strongly recommend having this done on the correct equipment.

If you have air suspension, as I do, you absolutely must disconnect it from power before propping up your Expedition. If it kicks in, which it can do even when the vehicle is off, it could knock the truck off your stands.

You can disconnect the shift motor electrical connector and test for juice. In all likelyhood, if the first suggestion doesn't free up your 4WD then chances are high that the shift motor is either bad or not getting juice.

You may also want to check the transmission range sensor. If it's faulty then it can prevent the 4WD system from engaging. You can test it as follows: Turn the ignition to "on" but don't start the engine, put the tranny in reverse and see if the back-up lights come on. If they don't, then the sensor is out of alignment or broken. If it's out of alignment, loosening the bolts on the sensor and moving it until the back-up lights come on will fix that. If the back-up lights don't come on even when moving the loosened sensor, then the sensor will need to be replaced. If the back-up lights do work, but either the vehicle won't start in park/neutral, or if it can start in any gear, then it is defective and should be replaced.

Hope this helps.

Truck says its out of gas

This sounds like your fuel pump. See if you are getting fuel to the fuel rail. Sometimes giving the vehicle a good shake will help it to temporarily start. Also try the relay.
