There are two pink wires that look like sending wires. Tried wiring each by there own and gas gauge still does not work. It worked before I installed the Dakota full gauge panel. There is a pink wire on the light panel. The gauge is set to 90 for m6 1978 Camaro. All grounds are hooked up correctly?
There are different types of fuel gauge with slightly different working principles so it is important for you to know what type of gauge you have and the requirements of the circuit in order to wire it correctly and test it all if it doesn't work.
An internet search will furnish you with these details, below is such a search and links to a couple of results...

SOURCE: 91 deville fuel gauge flashes "E"
It seems that you are low on fuel based on you saying 70 miles in the range gauge. If this problem does not happen with 3 gallons of fuel or more then it is normal. The range is calculated on your average MPG and gallons of fuel in the tank. When the car gets to around 2 gallons it does not chance miscalculating your miles to empty and leave you on the side of the road. At this point he tank will read "E" to let you know it is time to fuel up. The flashing "E" is simply cadillac's way to get your attention that you are in fact low on fuel and need to take action. Hope this helps.

I had a similar problem. In my 1966 Mustang gas tank, the fuel pick-up was on a "float." My float developed a hole, filled with gasoline, and sank to the bottom of the tank, therefore, the gauge always read empty, but the car ran well. All the other gauges of course worked correctly. The repair was a relatively simple soldering job (after removing the float from the tank), but if that is indeed the problem, ensure all the gasoline is drained from the float before beginning the soldering job.

check to make sure the wires are all connected at the sending unit, check to make sure you have a good ground.
