Generally, timing chains will last the life of the vehicle..that said, replacing one is an intense job which is best left to the pros. Check your oil level, also, remove the oil cap and have a look at the chain with Engine running..notice any broken or damaged links.
Personally, I think more likely the timing is off or the firing order is incorrect. Also bad coil pack/s or incorrect spark plugs?? Hope some of this helps..
Testimonial: "They put all new chains it was a kit when we started the the car after it was put back together the motor sounded worse then be for I think they didn't set the sprockets right the links in the chains don't line up with the marks on the gears so should I do it again but have a dealer do it"
If you decide to have a dealer do it, I would not tell them what the problem is..I would first ask them what they think is causing it? If they say the timing is off, ask them to correct it...in the meanwhile, I would not drive it, just get it towed. You can then go back to the original installer and try for a reimbursement...

It can be messed up. There are some tests that can be done to evaluate the timing with better scanners. In general, a lot of issues will set off a check engine light. I am not familiar with the length of your sparkplug wiring or fuel injector wiring, but if some were switched you might think the timing was wrong.
I would also point out that unless the timing chain was broken or a timing gear was stripped, you may have needed more than a timing chain in the first place or it was some other problem and the original chain was good. The timing chain needs to have the timing marks physically lined up correctly on the crankshaft and cams.
There were some v-6 engines with manifold runners. These can be tempermental because they have moving parts and need to be clean and can stick or be plugged with gasket cement or activator rods are not connected. Do not know if your year had this feature but some were on base engines and some were on optional engines. Runners were put in because newer manifolds had 2 levels to maximize airflow. You could not get best performance without being able to change which level operated at a certain RPM.
So these are just a few ideas of what to look for. Hope it helps.

Usually on the right side of the engine oil pan. Not the transmission. It is always on the side where it can't get knocked off by railroad tracks or other road hazards. Hope this helps.
SOURCE: 2005 Ford Freestyle compressor went bad, same mileage
Get an estimate from a Ford dealer. Your problem may not take all the parts that Goodyear wants to put in. The dealer has recall info and may work with you to keep a Ford customer. You say your compressor went bad, but that may be the result of a problem and not the cause.
You can also try independent shops rather than franchises. But you may not know of any. Sometimes I ask at Police stations if I need help for reliable service places.
SOURCE: Hello, got a car question for you fine people. My
50K miles IS premature for a chain to break. They're pretty tough. Are you sure it's a chain? If it is a BELT, it could be old and broke due to age. They are a synthetic rubber and eventually they deteriorate over time.
You don't specifically state what kind of car your friend has, so I am presuming a 1998 Accord. That car should have a belt.
Either a belt or a chain can fail prematurely if the tensioning system fails. This will allow excessive slack in the chain or belt which will cause damage to the affected drive components. The tensioning systems can fail due to one or more of the following:
Lack of oil pressure, failed tensioning springs, failed pulley bearings, over-revving the engine for ridiculous periods of time, and failed plastic guide components.
Belts can also fail due to chemical contamination (oil or antifreeze leaking on the belt).
Finally - the water pump can fail which will derail the belt as the belt drives the water pump on many Honda 4 cylinder engines.
