Hi - Just bought a used Chevy Aveo T300 2012. After bringing it home I found the recirculation/fresh air blend door is not working.

Button light comes on/off when pressing, but no function. After removing the glove-box I see there is no actuator on the blend door axle. And no loose wires !! Should there be an actuator controlling this blend door ? Or is the recirculation controlled somewhere else ?

There may have been a recall on that model for lack of installation of part, you can go to Chevy' s website and see if there was a recall; if there was you can get this repaired at the manufacture cost and not your own.

  • Uphill41 Jan 17, 2018

Thanks, but no recalls according to the GM website on my VIN number. Does the additional info, added as comments in the other reply made on this question, makes any sense to you?

  • tim miller Jan 18, 2018

Yes it makes sense he is talking about the door that blends and regulated the temp in the car for hot to clod and in between and this door will be moved by cables the other doors will work on air flow and temperature settings; depending on your location you can do what I have do in the past to help people get heat or cold, you can manually set the door to a specific position and lock it in place with a hook or screw; this will help set it where you want it till you get the time to fix it properly

Recirc is not controlled by the blend door - there is another (different) air valve with actuator that is probably the problem.

Thanks for answering. So do you happen to know where to find this valve/actuator?

  • EdCarCal
    EdCarCal Jan 16, 2018

It's on the hvac box somewhere, but may not be easily accessible. Best bet is to visit Alldatadiy.com and look at location views, or look in the service manual if you have one for this car.

  • Uphill41 Jan 16, 2018

Ok, thanks. So this means that the valve behind the glove box just always should be open? It's a strange setup, especially because the valve is not fixed and therefore rotate occationally to shift randomly between being open or closed, eg when driving on a bumpy road or at hard stops. There are fixing holes for an actuator and the valve axle has grease on it, so it looks clearly as an actuator have been there earlier. And I dont see where recycle air should come from and still pass the air filter if not via this valve. But the missing wires of course speak for a different valve at another location, as you already explained.
I now found two different drawings of the setup for Aveo T300, one with an actuator on this valve axle, and another without !! But the drawing without the actuator does not show an actuator at another position. So still a puzzle to me.
Sorry for this lenghty extra description, but now I think I got everything covered in more detail. Don't know if this changes anything. Your explanation definitely still makes best sense.

    EdCarCal Jan 17, 2018

That is strange - I have never heard of this. In order to recirc air in the car there has to be a diverter valve which blocks the outside air and connects the box to a vent which is usually on the passenger side inside the car (often on or above the kick panel). Recirc air is not filtered! Depending on your HVAC controls, if what you are looking at is the blend valve, there has to be either an actuator on it or a mechanical cable connected to it.

  • Uphill41 Jan 17, 2018

Yes, strange the word! The recirculation control is electronic so an actuator should be expected. A/C is also Electronic. Temp control and interior air direction control are cables.

  • EdCarCal
    EdCarCal Jan 17, 2018

When you say cables, do you mean mechanical cables? You realize temp control adjusts a blend door?

  • Uphill41 Jan 17, 2018

Yes mechanical cables control blend doors for temperature and cabin air flow direction. These work fine. It is only the fresh air/ recirculation blend door (no.8 in the picture link) which appears not to have any controls. Link :http://d3d71ba2asa5oz.cloudfront.net/130...

  • EdCarCal
    EdCarCal Jan 17, 2018

AHA! I see the confusion - you are calling both doors blend doors. With this design, I think the recirc door (8) is controlled by airflow from outside the car. When the car is in motion, air pressure from the front vent would start closing the recirc side, and when stationary would flop back to recirc. This design was probably used to avoid sucking exhaust into the cabin when the car is stationary.
As far as the button is concerned, that may be the one that activates the air conditioning, and will not stay on if the system thinks the outside temperature is too cold. I expect you can get any operating info you need from the user manual (Google it for download).

  • Uphill41 Jan 18, 2018

Recirculation must be controlable according to the manual, as it has been on all my earlier cars. Recycle is a standard function which is useful when it is very cold, or when driving though a stinky or smoky area or if driving behind a diesel van. Makes no sense to me if it is not fully controlable. AC is controlled by another button.

  • EdCarCal
    EdCarCal Jan 18, 2018

I agree, but an actuator is either there or it's not. Why anyone would remove the actuator (especially since you can't find any wiring for it, or a cable for the door) is a mystery to me. If it were me, I would check the wiring schematic and the back of the HVAC control to see if something is missing, or if in fact wiring for an actuator is actually there and you can trace it. Your only other recourse I can see is for you to contact GM to see what's going on, or to talk to a dealer.

  • Uphill41 Jan 18, 2018

This may be embarrasing but earlier today I actually found The missing wire, well hidden behind the blower at a non-expected location compared to the wiring drawing I have seen. Measuring confirms it reacts with the recycle air button. Thanks for all good ideas and comments, helped me not giving up on this. Case closed :-)

SOURCE: cold air on passenger side warm air on drivers side

Actuator motors either get a tear in the rubber or a hose is broken and not letting vacuum assist in its opening.
You can try moving the lever by hand and see if the air gets colder on the bad side.c976077.jpg

SOURCE: How do you fix the driver side air blend door actuator?

you cannot repair the actuator you need to replace it with new one. These motors turn but get weak with time. if you test it, it works, put it in and it doesn't. this is because the motor is weak, unfortunately GM does not sell these motors separately.

SOURCE: vent door stuck and can't remove glove box

why can't you remove the glove box? You can get at the door from under the dash but it's a ***** to do. try lubing the vent cables unless it uses the vacuum motor, if it uses the vac. motor it will be hard to get to without the glove box being out.

Inside cab blows out hot air controls are off but air still comes out

OUTSIDE AIR: Press this button to direct the system to use outside air.
Pressing the OUTSIDE AIR button will cancel the RECIRCULATION button.

RECIRCULATION: Press this button to limit the amount of outside air entering your vehicle.
This is helpful when you are trying to limit odors entering your vehicle or attempting to quickly cool down the interior. Pressing RECIRCULATION will recirculate air continuously.

RECIRCULATION is used when the fan control is OFF to limit odors, outside air and dust from entering your vehicle. All button lights will go off. The last setting selected will activate when the blower is turned back on.
Pressing the RECIRCULATION button will cancel the OUTSIDE AIR button. To return to normal operation and to prevent stale air, be sure to return the OUTSIDE AIR.

Between HEATER and BLEND mode, outside air is forced to reduce window fogging. If the RECIRCULATION button is pressed, the LED indicator will flash three times indicating that forced outside air is activated and RECIRCULATION is not available.

I think what your experiencing is normal. If you want to keep cold air form coming into the cabin, press the recirc button.

I hope this helped, icon_e_biggrin.gif

I have a 1996 audi a4 quatro and have replace the climate control. all the buttons work and lights up but the ac compressor does not kick in and the fresh air door wont close. reinstalled old one, dampers...

I have a 96 cabriolet, and the AC controls are cable operated. Check your cables under the dash. there i a button for the ac, right next to the recirculate button separate from the dials. If that doesn't kick in your AC, check relays and fuses, and then low pressure switch, assuming you already know that you are full of freon.

2005 Toyota Corolla air conditioner is cold but

The air flow does not 'increase' with the recirc button pressed. The fan motor blows at specific speeds, no matter whether fresh or recirc is selected. The recirc feature is there so that you do NOT admit 'fresh/hot' air from the outside into the AC box. In short, the recirc feature is to re-use, or, recirculate the existing air in the car. When it is properly working, on a hot day, the recirc selection should drop the internal temperature at the center air vent about 6 degrees lower than with the fresh selected.

Vent Control Noise Behind Glove Box

The noise is coming from the blend door motors.
All of the climate control doors (vents, defroster, temperature, recirculation etc) are controlled by electronic motors. As the motors age they tend to make a buzzing noise when they move.

There is a software upgrade that is available to minimize the noise, but it will always make the noise to some degree.

Hope this helps.

No air coming through the vents

Sounds like the door that brings in fresh air is not closing enough so when you get to moving it is not letting the cab recirculate the inside air and bringing in some from the outside which comes from the bottom of the windshield on the outside. along with when you get to hitting the gas going down the road you might be loosing a little vacuum and that door going to your vents might close a little.. ? what you thinkin? just a few ideas might not be a fix though thanks Jerry
