I have a 2001 Saturn SL1, i did a diagnostics and got a p0340 code. the coils and wires are new, i just did a tune up. I have a surging issue that surges from 200 rpm to 800.

code p 0340 refers to camshaft position(CMP) sensor A , bank 1---circuit malfunction==== causes--wiring---CMP sensor---ECM
if the wiring is broken or loose or not making continuous contact the problem of the surging could be the ignition control module not knowing when to fire so it could be late or early
check your wiring for burns , breaks , corroded connections , then replace the sensor

How do i replace a coil pack on a 1999 saturn sl1 sohc

follow the plug wires to the ignition module-it houses 2 coil packs. if you are attempting to fix a misfire you may need to replace the whole module(see my tips)

Replacing plugs and wires is the correct soultion for a p0341 on an S-car. However the trans shifting hard is another common problem that the s-cars have which is your valve body on your transmission and the Input shaft nut will eventually need to be replaced as the problem will get worse. as far as the Ignition module. It is actually called an Ignition Control Module. Maybe they were saying controller and referring to that. I hope this helps.

2000 Saturn SL2 - replaced ignition then BCM failed. Related?

the problem is not the bcm. the passlock security sensor is in the cylinder and housing, if the cyl and or housing was replaced the system must be relearned. if you replace the bcm you still need to relearn the system or it still will not start.

Warning bell does not turn off

Probable bad switch, whether it's the ignition switch or light switch or other I'm not sure. I'd start by checking TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins) through Saturn; they shouldn't charge you to check their database for this problem. I know GM had the same problem. May also be the control module that interfaces all of these various warning systems with the main computer. Referred to a "body control module" or something similar.
