, it stops if i Touch the brake or the accelerator, we recently had New Tires, Shocks, Alignment and balance done, had a severe vibration at 69MPG or higher. took the wheel off and discovered they put the spare on the front that had a bent rim (DUH), that fixed the vibration but now the knock - like something is loose. Does not knock when changing gears, accelerating or braking, just coast. Sounds like a drum stick hitting the bottom of the car. While the tire was off, did a lube and hand checked for any loose suspension parts. Ideas?
SOURCE: shakes and vibration
i had the alignment done about six months ago at the dealership. Would they have been able to align the car if something was bad? Not sure how they deemed the new tires bad, but they said they moved the tires from left to right and front to back and could control the shimmy and shake. this has went on for about a year. I dont believe the new tires the first time were bad, i believe the rim was bent. I dont know what to do. These tires have about 10000 miles on them, have been balanced twice, a rim was replaced due to them saying it was bent, but yet, the vibration starts at about 55 and gets worse as you gain speed. Can even feel it in the passenger seat in the front as well. Steering wheel shakes. You can actually see your hand shake while you are driving it, but then at times, it seems to go away and start again. Thanks for any suggestions.
SOURCE: single knock sound from dead stop or when slowing down
I had the same problem on a brand new 2008 JEEP Patriot. The solution after 2 trips to the dealer was to tighten all the suspension bolts in the front. Note wether your problem is in the front or rear and go to the dealer.

See if you can bounce car and replicate the noise. If you can, you should be able to find it, and put your hand on it. Stabilizer bushing are a place to look, both at the lower a arm and on the frame. If you narrow it down to the strut, it will need to be replaced. The front trans mount also goes bad, try putting it in drive with your foot on the brake and give it some gas and see if the engine moves an excessive amount.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I'VE BEEN DOING A LOT OF RESEARCH ON IT AND I THINK ITS GONNA BE THE BUSHINGS IN THE REAR KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY AND YOUR HAVE TO CHANGE THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY. I HAVEN'T TRIED IT YET BUT IF YOU CHECK BACK IN A COUPLE DAYS I WILL LET YOU KNOW
