Hi there,
The bitter taste could be either burning oil getting on the manifold from either rocker cover gasket blown out /or manifold gasket leaking fumes /or could be coolant leaking on to hot engine all of these will cause the same taste and smells ,so i would like more information as to the problem after you have checked out the above items please.
Ron
I had a 2000 with leaking fuel lines. There are a few molded rubber lines. Check the condition of the rubber and the hose clamps. If they are wet, you have a leak. When replacing use the good clamps that you can tighten with a nut driver
to much gas fumes can make you ill thats why you fill or transfer gas in a well vented area --will need to look for what vent ,line or component is causing the fumes
they need to check under your back seat and see if the seal is still working your gas tank sending unit is under your back seat .toyota needs to do this for you
catalytic converter, this is common when they go bad, you don't smell any hing or hear any thing, but it is pushing the fumes back thru the exhaust and into the car.
your best bet is to take it into an exhaust shop not just a regular shop.
Did you make sure there is no holes or rust in the tail pipe?
