What could be the cause of my car all the sudden not accelerating, instead only revving up & the thermostat went all the way hot when the vehicle was no where near hot?

My 07 saturn relay is currently in protection mode it's saying my vehicle is overheating when it isn't & the other day I was at a stop sign, a block away from my house, 1st time driving the vehicle that day, and when I went to go on green light, it just revved up, no acceleration at all. It didn't shut off, just wouldn't go. The thermostat was all the way hot as well, when it was definitely not hot at all. I don't know what could cause this problem as it has never happened before. Could it be that I just need to replace the thermostat sensor so the car will stop reading it's hot when it's not, ?

SOURCE: Over-revving in 5th at 75mph all of a sudden

If the car rev'd up but did not speed up at the same time the clutch is starting to slip. Check the adjustment and recheck driving. When the clutch starts to wear this is how they act, only most people ignore whats happening and keep driving till adjustments won't fix it and the clutch has to be replaced. Have adjustment checked and keep an eye on it and hopefullty you won't need a clutch yet.

SOURCE: Vehicle revvs without acceleration, may be leaking oil and tranny

You have most likely poked holes in the oil pans for the engine and transmission, or oil lines for them. You will have to go under the truck with some rags and start wiping things off looking for dents and or holes. Leaks will oil back up quickly when you wipe them off. If you see puddles of oil under the truck start there. You are probably looking at replacing these pans and lines which wouldn't be too expensive but you could also be looking at replacing the transif it has burnt out. Check the fluid level and for color and smell. If the trans fluid is brown or black and smells burnt you will have to change it. A scrap yard will be your best betfor another trans, $500 or so depending on the yard. Get some skid plates if you are going to keep on off-roading. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2001 Saturn LW200 engine revving

It may be something that only happens when the cars is driven for a while. They need to test drive the car and try to duplicate the conditions when the revving took place, such as what speed were you driving at the time, were you accelerating or cruising at a steady speed, was the cruise control in use. I'll try to research the problem to see if it is a common occurrence with your vehicle model.

Nissan Sentra 2008. Transmission control module gets very hot

Based on the symptoms you described, it is possible that the problem is related to the transmission control module (TCM) or other components related to the transmission system.
When the TCM gets too hot, it may cause the transmission to malfunction and result in a loss of power and acceleration. This could also cause the engine to stall or refuse to rev.
There are several potential causes for a TCM to overheat, including a faulty cooling system or electrical issue. It is best to have the car inspected by a qualified mechanic who can diagnose the problem and recommend appropriate repairs. They may need to run diagnostic tests or check the electrical connections to identify the root cause of the problem.

I have a 1993 ford festiva its a good little car it runs good when the engine is cold but when it warms up it sputters and dies on me when it dies it fires right back up like nothing ever happened It...

If it has an automatic choke, this will keep it revving more when the engine is cold and less when hot. Maybe adjust the idle setting screw on the carburettor so it revs slightly more. Try that before it is running hot. Only increase the revving gradually to the stage where stalling would be avoided when hot. Gradually so that there is not too much revving when cold. Adjusting and testing over a few runs could be a good strategy

use a can of WD-40 and spray it on the vacum lines and around the intakemanifold when the engine is hot and running. This will cause the engine to rev up when it is sprayed on the vacuum leak. be sure that the engine is at operating temperature as this is when the vacuum lines and gaskets tend to fail.
