I have a 1991 Cadillac eldorado 4.9L I am having a really hard time with the oil cooler, Do I need the oil cooler?

We plugged up the the fittings on the sides of the radiator where the oil cooler connects and ran it directly to the oil cooler, so we bypassed the lines to the radiator. Now that we went out to start it all the oil drianed out from from small rubber hose that connects to the oil cooler, which makes no sense because that is the line that was used to connect the auxiliary oil cooler to the radiator in the first place. So we just want to get rid of the oil cooler all together,is that possible Can I bypass the oil cooler lines that connect to the radiator and just go straight from the engine to the cooler? Instead of from the engine to the radiator to the oil cooler. we want to to eliminate the oil cooler all together,is that possible Is my question. PLEASE HELP!! I'm starting to lose my mind because of this car

The oil cooler was put there by the manufacture for a reason. The best course of action is to properly repair the vehicle so it works as designed.

How would I convert a radiator from a 1987 Buick regal to my 1991 Cadillac eldorado? And can I 8 run the he oil and tranny cooling lines with one hose each instead two each?

no you must have two lines for each . one is oil and one is transmission fluid, they both have a supply and return line. As for radiator yes use special lines.

So after patching the radiator on our 1991 Cadillac eldorado biattritz 4.9L we connected everything back to the radiator and accidentally stripped the radiator fitting for the lower oil cooling line

There is actually a way to PUCHASE an external transmission cooler and COMPLETELY by-pass the one you cross-threaded.

BUT...
As I stated previously... a NEW RADIATOR
is still available... The care is definitely worth the
EXTRA CARE (a collector car)... and a WORK AROUND
would NOT be cheap (nor probably reliable)

Where is the shift solenoid located at on a 1991 cadillac eldorado? having problems shifting in to high gears. how hard is it to replace?

with age of car many things cud be worn on trans--do a pressure chec for any internal leaks--may just need a trans fluid change or a tv valve ajust etc --automatics are very complicated-get a book or ask a reputable tech to test drive

My 2001 Cadillac Eldorado just stopped running? What could it be? It does have an oil leak; could that have stopped the engine?

the oil leak has nothing to do with it unless you let it run out of oil and locked the motor up. it could be anything. fuel pump stopped working, not getting fire to the spark plugs, jumped timing, etc.

Car has new plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotor, also water pump. Sputters badly when you take off, continues to sputter until higher speed is reached. Also surges occassionally when idling. Fuel pressure...

to me it sounds like your just about to put water down your exhaust mate or your rings are binding up. I recon dump your oil and run diesel oil from now on and reset your timing belt before those new spark plugs end up in your lap.

you will need to have the dealer turn off the light. most repair shops can do it also.
