You need to discharge the AC system and remove the evaporator to replace the expansion valve. No two way about it.

No need to remove the dash

SOURCE: replace expansion valve

Hi Tresap,
The only expansion valve that I can think of that you may like to replace is on the air conditioning unit....This valve is found usualy mounted onto the AC unit....You'll have to remove the dash board and centre consul....This is qute a job....You should then see the expantion valve on the cabin side of the AC housing....where the pipes go thru into the engine compartment....NOW HOLD EVERYTHING.....before you can remove the valve you need to depressurize the AC unit....That should be done by an expert....The gas is dangerous and you must wear safety googles at ALL times....Once you have removed the valve, you must seal the system so that as little moisture as possible enters the system....If it is left open, you'll have to replace the dryer unit too....when you've finished your replacement, assembly is the opposite as disassembly.....You'll then need to have the system recharged....Don't try to engage it until that has been done....It wont work even if you tried ,as there are pressur switches which will inhibit the opperation....If you have had practice, it will take about three quarters of a day......if not, three or four days

Hope that this helps you

Best regards Johngee10

Show me a youtube vedio on how to remove an expansion valve on a 2004 honda accord

Hi,It is not to difficult to remove or replace the expansion value for your Honda cars. Only you have to do to replace or remove the components. You have to disconnect the two lines to the evaporator from the engine bay, then you will have to remove the evaporator unit from under the passenger's dash. Then you take apart the evaporator to get to the expansion valve.
Here's I have also attached the video of expansion valve replacement of your Honda Accord.

My honda has power and the starter is good but wont start

I like to make sure the timing belt is not broken by watching the cam turn inside the valve cover. then I lay a spare spark plug on valve cover connected to any plug wire to see if it sparks Fuel can be confirmed by smelling the exhaust, or by using starting fluid . These cars are famous for a relay solder break problem. The relay is heat expansion damaged, its mounted high up in the dash drivers side corner it is about 3" square gray..

Location of expansion valve

Expansion valve is located passenger dash area , inside the evaporator housing. This is not a repair that can be easily done by a home "do it yourselfer".It requires evacuating the the air condition system of freon is the biggest obsticle doing at home. Rec. taking to a certified a/c repair shop for this repair.
