My Lincoln Continental 2000 Model oil light came on engine stopped after 25 feet. would not restart even though oil full. The car started the next day, but had a rattling sound at the top of the motor

Full oil doesn't mean pressure. Light records pressure. Light means low or no pressure. Noise at top of engine means possible engine damage. The vehicle shuts down because the mechanism is not working correctly and the sensor shuts it down. Get this fixed ASAP.

Have oil pressure tested full doesnt mean oil is flowing --pump lifters bearings can be bad and can cause rattle noise [ if lifter collapse push rod can pop or be loose against rocker arm ]] if continue to run without oil pressure can seize engine

Oil light is rather important it goes out if oil pressure is good comes on if oil pressure is low when it comes on damage is expected with continued operation like wearing of main bearings and pistons and cylinders can lead to a engine rebuild
