Replaced the Crankshaft and camshaft sensors as a kit from Nissan. Cleared all codes (only code was P0335) and car was hard to start then flagged same code again along with P0725, Engine Speed signal. Not looking forward to pulling the connector on that crank sensor again. My hand is still raw. Any suggestions?
In the kit there are two sensor that look identical. The one for the crankshaft has a white paint mark on it near the bolt hole. Make sure that it is in the right location.
The part number should be 23731-6N225. However there is a new ECM reprogram for the crank angle sensor. This will have to be downloaded from ASIST in to the Consult II and then downloaded into your vehicles ECM. This is recall number R0606 (NTB06-51a). Your local dealer will have to preform this for you at no charge.
Don't give up on Nissan. Its the supplier to Nissan that is the problem (By the way the same company makes sensor for other companies too.). Check your crankshaft sensor harness to make sure the problem isn't before the sensor. Unplug the sensor and check the number 1 terminal (Red wire with green tracer) should have 12 volts with the key on. Number 2 terminal (white wire) check continuity on this wire to the ECM (terminal 71). Number 3 terminal (black wire) should have continuity to ground.

Make sure to buy original OEM replacement Crankshaft Positioning Sensor from Nissan dealer or online. Also, replace Camshaft Positioning sensor as well. They are identical sensor and work in tandem. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0335
Magnetic Crankshaft Position Sensor Electrical Error
In this circuit DTC (data trouble code) sets when a) The magnetic crankshaft position sensor is > 0.2V. Or when b) The minimum value of magnetic crankshaft position sensor is Or when c) The maximum value of magnetic crankshaft position sensor is higher than 2.2V.

Everything I read indicated that the 2 sensors are identical. Nissan parts and service people re-affirmed. None the less, I got lucky and actually did put the correct one (per your description) in each position. I have since learned that there is a new cylindrical metal replacement sensor. The ones in the kit from Nissan looked identical to the old ones.
Another interesting thing was I put the old "defective" crank sensor in the cam slot as a test. I went for a test drive with my code reader installed. It flagged P0335 when the engine started a little rough, then under accelleration it flagged P0725, Engine Speed Sensor circuit. No Cam sensor error with the old crank sensor. Color me skeptical...
Thank you Master, I will try the dealer again on Monday. They already ran my VIN and told me I was not covered by the recall when I bought the sensor pack (recall kit). They did not mention the ECM reprogramming though that would explain the lingering effects of a replaced sensor so I have to believe you are on to something.
I also suspect they will try to charge me for this service. This experience has lowered my longstanding high opinion of Nissan.
Almost forgot the most important part; the part number of the two sensor kit I got was B3731-6N27K. The nomenclature on the package is "Position and Phas" and "09/05/11". Does that tell you anything?
The saga continues...
Went to the Nissan service dept for the ECM reprogram. They said there is no reprogram for my VIN since it was not covered by the recall; he was only going to reset the error codes for $50 + tax. Told him I could reset the code with my scanner. He then suggested that I may have bent a pin installing the sensor and they needed to remove and inspect both (crank and cam) sensors and go from there at a minimum of $115. I walked away frustrated and told him this is my last Nissan. Before I go back with my tail between my legs I am going to do the connector inspection myself and swap the sensors (cam for crank, both of which are new from Nissan as you may recall). I am almost certain that this will not fix the problem and that really frustrates me.
I am desperate for some reliable advice.
Copy all. Waiting for the engine to cool down. I will do as you suggest. While cooling down myself, I found the EC manual online athttp://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/Knowledge... and am currently reading the troubleshooting for P0335. Looks to be what you suggest plus some other checks like verifying good ground, etc. Will report back when I have more data. I appreciate your support and encouragement. I have many great Nissan memories staring in the 70s with a Datsun 510, then a '78 280Z, an '84 300ZX Turbo, and an '89 Maxima. They all had their quirks but what car doesn't.
Dealer was right; I bent a pin on the new sensor during installation. My bad! Apologized to dealer. I bent the pin back very carefully with some jewelers needle nose pliers. Test mated good, then installed and very carefully mated the crankshaft connector to the fixed sensor. No more symptoms or error codes. Yea!
Thanks again for the guidance and support.
car starts very well, but jerks whiles moving, the scan reveals p0335
