2003 PONTIAC VIBE CANNOT GET CAR OUT OF PARK. STEERING IS FROZEN. KEY TURNS ON LIGHTS ETC. BUT WILL NOT START CAR

Check your fuses. Probably a 10 or 15 amp. Most newer cars have 2 fuse boxes....one under or on the side of dash (drivers side) and one under hood.

Have someone check for the brake light when you are on the brake,
This will rule out a bad brake switch interlock and / or fuse.

Take the key out Gently rock the steering and listen for a click (spring return)

Put the key in and start the car Turn the steering wheel end to end and listen for any sound.

This rule out any steering issue.

Check the connector to the interlock under the shifter.

Does the car crank? If not, does you lights dim when trying to start? If your lights are bright and the car is not starting than It's most likely the starter. If your lights are dim than try to jump start it. If it cranks and still not starting than it could be so many different things.

sounds like the key is still in the on position. put in park and jiggle the steering wheel and try to turn the key back to the off position. that will allow you to remove the key. of course that doesn't address the no start issue. check the normal things, battery, cable end connections for tightness and freedom from corrosion, etc. no lights sounds like either a faulty battery connection or a drained battery.

10 amp fuse under steering column that says it is for 'Gauge' fixed this problem. That fuse had blown.

nutral safty switch try moving the shifter from P ... to N....P....N....P.....N

check under the dash in the drivers side, or in glove compartment. also it would have a relay center underhood

there should be a cap that you can pop off with a key or small flat screwdriver next to the shift indicator next to the shift lever. lift the cap off and insert your key into the key hole you should be able to shift the lever now if the problem persists take your vibe into the dealer.
