1996 Intrepid Transmission Problems.

I have a 1996 Intrepid with a 3.3 engine. My transmission was rebuilt almost exactly 2 years ago. Recently, my car started slipping gears. All the fluid levels in the car are fine, we check them every week. There is a small leak but it doesn't make the fluid level fo down hardly at all. The weird thing is if you ease on the gas so the car is hardly moving at all, slowly let the car build speed, it won't slip at all. I'm hoping this is just a simple filter change job. Any suggestions?

Change you fluid and filter but when you do add Lucas Transmission Fix its a non-solvent formulas that stops slip, hesitation and rough shifting in worn transmissions and completely eliminates most seal leaks, it work like a charm on my 2001 caviler that had a very simular prolbem , i didnt even change the fluid i just sucked out enofgh fluid to put in the product . this stuff works

I have a 1981 ford f150 4x4 with a 302 engine An automatic transmission that works fine shifts properly going forward But when I put it in reverse I hear a clunk and sometimes it goes into gear and...

If the transmission was rebuilt 2 years ago the fluid and filter did not need to be changed. In a 1981 there are no trouble codes to retrieve so whoever suggested that is out to lunch, Unfortunatley you need to get the transmission rebuilt again, hopefully it gets done better this time. Using the dexron oil in Ford transmissions is something transmission shops do because they don't want to stock different fluids. While it's not likely that using dexron oil lead to the failure it would be better to use mercon or type F oil.

U151e sienna transmission shuttle shifts 2-3 3-2 and 3-4 and 4-3 on an up shift. Happens quickly. Like its searching between shifts. Thank You

It could be the speed sensor in the transmission but sounds more like your transmission is slipping.Hopefully it is the sensor. If it ends up being the transmission is bad though,I have experienced problems with longevity/durability with rebuilt or used transmissions.Buying a new one could be between $300-$500 more, maybe more, but is well worth the money. It will probably only have a 1 year warranty, rarely a 2 year but it is there.I also know other people who have had them rebuilt and it was very disappointing considering the money involved. When I researched replacing a clutch versus a transmission,I switched to manual transmissions and have had them ever since.About 6 years ago,I got a new clutch for $500.Good luck,Greg

Transmission slips or doesn't engage in reverse

Service the transmission, when you have the pan off, adjust the rear band. Loosen the lock nut. Tighten the adjuster to 10 ftlbs. Loosen the adjuster 2 turns and tighten the locknut. You either have an model 500 transmission (6 cylinder engine) or model 518 (V8 engine). In both transmissions reverse is controlled exactly the same. If adjusting the band doesn't fix it, then it will need rebuilt.
