I have a 2002 saturn and when i go thru puddles my engine keeps quitting on me.. the rpm's go from 2 to 3.5 while driving..please help me figure out why

the CMP and CPK sensors both must be good and cam actually turns and cam timing in spec or the ECU cuts spark then cuts fuel..



cmp goes to icm and icm to pcm.2002 Ecotec 2.2 DOHC. no VIN F IS 2.4L AND VASTLY DIFFER\ENT

Bad ignition module often will not set a code for itself. Hard to diagnose due to being so random. Also just possible tach feed wire is shorting somewhere, coming and going.

Disconnect your battery, wait 30 minutes, then reconnect and drive for 30 minutes...

CHECK ENGINE LAMP ON MEANS THAT ONE OF THE ENGINE CONTROL SENSORS IS OUT OF RANGE. NEE TO GET YOUR ENGINE COMPUTER SYSTEM SCAN TESTED TO RETRIEVE THE FAILURE CODES, DO THAT AND SEND ME THE INFO SO I CAN HELP YOU FURTHER FAILURE CODES ON 1996 YEAR MODEL VEHICLE AND NEWER ALWAYS START WITH A "P" LETTER AND THEN THERE WILL BE 4 MORE DIGITS WHICH CONSISTS OF NUMBERS. GET THE CODES AND DESCRIPTIONS PLEASE

Take it to a shop and ask them to put it up on a lift, take a look and figure out where it is leaking. They can tell you and also how much to fix.

you have a firing issue .. replace complete spark system plugs wires distributor cap rotor button and coil what happened is you got it wet and coil broke down water got inside distributor cap and messed it up .. you might even have to go as far as to replace the entire distributor

This is actually fairly common I would not worry about it too much, the A/C compressor puts quite a load on a little 4 cylinder engine and uses up a fair percentage of the available horsepower. at idle you notice it the most because your at a very low rpm. hope this helps.

It sounds as if the main power lead could be loose powering the dash. There are several main power blocks, make sure your connections are clean and tight. I have seen the circuit board for the dash fail but not often. Hope this helps.

remove the belt and spin all of the pulleys by hand to make sure they all spin freely. the knocking noise is probebly a pulley locked up.
