SOURCE: replacing the starter on my 2005 Kia Rio

1st disconnect your battery (Tools that I needed. 14mm socket for mounting bolts, 13 mm socket and a drop light. You need to jack up the front end pretty high both sides and put jack stands under each side. (extra precaution I put wood under the wheels because I don't like getting crushed. Slide under your car (bring a drop light) Look up and see your oil filter. Now look left and you will see the starter motor (oh yeah there is a pain in the as s bracket in the way) remove that bracket (14mm should be right) and then remove the bottom bolt of the starter (you may need a long socket extension here 8"?) The next set of bolts you have to get from up above that come from the other side. Get your light in there the one on the left side is easiest so get that last. The one on the right side will have a wiring harness running really close to it. Force your 14mm socket onto it with a 4 in extension. Back the bolt off till it spins a free but leave it in the hole. Remove the second one until you hear the unit fall. When putting the two bolts from the other side in, don't reef on them to get them super tight. Save your core so you can get some money back. Good repair manuel will cost 20 bucks, Haynes auto repair at your local auto parts store. good luck

SOURCE: gear box oil filler plug - kia rio 2004

you have to take off the speedometer cable/wiring harness from the top of the trans and fill it from there....one 10mm bolt...very awkward spot...it might be snug, so just take a flat head screwdriver from underneath to tap it loose...

Kia Rio 2005 manual, the gear will get stuck and car shakes and stalls on its own when I come to a stop, foot on clutch and brake, in reverse and first gear.

what would happen if you put it in first gear, put your foot on the clutch then try to start the car....of course pick a place where safe!!!...if it rolls forward while cranking ,the clutch plate is touching the flywheel (in other words the clutch all the way down while in gear while cranking, should NOT touch the flywheel(transmission part that makes the car move) so if it moves then it shows the transmission reacts to the clutch touching the other jiggamathig. Possibly clutch system needs bleeding (air in the hydraulic system). I'm sure your car has this thing called a "clutch slave cylinder". Now,this is one thing I would check first.

My kia rio 2005 overdrive not working properly, sometimes stays in 3rd gear running at 50 or 60 mph...help please

get car scanned-cud be a stuck shift solenoid caused by bad or low fluid--also older trans have worn parts like clutches or a # of other things-may just need an ajust on the line pressure or throttle cable

2006 kia rio, what is the overdrive for?

Overdrive is like 5th gear, its better for gas mpg. And is less rpm.

Pops out of 5th gear

This is most likely not a linkage issue. This is an internal transmission issue. Inside the transmission there are some brass pieces that synchronize the gears when you depress the clutch. This is also a tell tell sign that the one between 4th and 5th gear is worn out or completely chewed up. The transmission will need to be repaired or completely rebuilt depending on how much damage has been done to the internal components. sorry about delivering bad news but that's the facts on vehicles that have been driven hard. Hope this information helps you. Good luck.
