SOURCE: How do I replace a radio. In my 2003 lincoln town car signature se

First of all you have to remove the Instrument cluster finish panel.

Position the shifter lever in the 1st gear position.

NOTE: Ignition switch must be in OFF position if disconnecting the passenger airbag deactivation (PAD) indicator electrical connector. Otherwise, a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be set in the restraints control module (RCM) memory and must be erased before releasing the vehicle.

Position the ignition switch in the OFF position.

Position the steering column to the full down position.

Remove the 2 instrument cluster finish panel screws over the speedometer.
Release the retainers by pulling the bezel out working your way around it then disconnect the electrical connectors and position the instrument cluster finish panel aside.

Then remove the 2 screws in the clock and remove it.

Then remove the 4 screws in the audio unit and remove it.

SOURCE: FM will not play

It may not be disconnected but may have a break in cable somewhere, or bad connection. I'd be tempted to buy a cheap one at parts store that will plug in to rear of stereo and just try it. Unwrap it carefully & that way, it can go back & say wrong one, if not needed.

How to insert the code for the radio of my golf3 /1996

ENTERING SECURITY CODE

Most vehicles are equipped with Heidelberg V or VI radios that are equipped with a theft protection program. When the battery has been is disconnected or if the radio has been removed, the radio will lock-up electronically and cannot be operated until the security code is entered. On the Heidelberg V, if the proper code is not entered in six attempts, the radio will lock-up permanently and cannot be repaired. On the Heidelberg VI, two incorrect attempts will lock the radio for about 1 hour.
The Heidelberg V may have a code assigned at the factory or a personal code created by the owner. The Hiedelberg VI has a code assigned at the factory and entered by the dealer during pre-delivery inspection. New radios come with the code printed on a sticker but not entered into memory. All codes are 4 digits. To code the radio:
Heidelberg V

  1. Turn the radio ON . The radio should display the word SAF. DO NOT attempt to eject a cassette with the radio in this mode.
  2. Push the AM/FM and SCAN buttons at the same time and hold them until the display changes, then release them immediately. The number 1000 will appear for about 3 seconds, then the display will go blank. Release the buttons then.

NOTE If the buttons are held too long, the radio will interpret this as an attempt to enter an incorrect code.
  1. Use the first four station selector buttons to enter the code. The first digit of the code is always 1. Each time the other buttons are pushed, the number in that position will change.
  2. When the code appears correctly in the display, push the AM/FM and SCAN buttons at the same time. When the radio plays and displays a frequency, release the buttons.
  3. If the code was entered incorrectly three times, momentarily disconnect the battery and try again. If the code is entered incorrectly three more times, the radio cannot be coded and cannot be repaired.

  2. Push the AM/FM and SCAN buttons at the same time and hold them until the display changes, then release them immediately. The number 1000 will appear and remain in the display.

  3. If the code was entered incorrectly two times, leave the radio ON for one hour and try again. This can be repeated as often as required.

How do i make the radio in my 1993 VW cabriolet work the guy i bought it from said you have to input a code but he couldnt remember what steps to take. i do have the code he wrote that down. what do i do

You can try this. It's for a Passat but it's most likely the same for all models that year.
1. Turn the radio on. "SAFe" should appear on the display.
2. Push the AM/FM and SCAN buttons. Hold them until the display changes to 1000, then release. If the buttons are held too long or accidently pushed again this will be interpreted as entry of an incorrct code.
3. Enter the code usung the first four station programing buttos. The code will appear on the display.
4. Push the AM/FM and SCAN buttons and hold until the display changes to SAFe. Release the buttons.
After 2 incorrect tries the radio will lock up and refuse any more tries. Leave the radio on for at least 1 hour and then you can try again. Same deal, 2 tries and then lock up. The radio does not lock up permanently.
This needs to be done any time you disconnect power so write it down somewhere and keep it. Any time you disconnect the battery or disrupt power to the radio, blow a fuse or remove the fuse it will have to be done.
Hope this helps.

How Do I Get My Radio Out OF Safe Mode? Anyone?

Hi.

The radio goes in safe mode when the battery gets disconnected, or if for some reason the radio lost power connection.

To get the radio out of safe mode you will need the anti theft code.
This is available with car documentation, in first page of the in car entertainment booklet, or on first page of the car booklet (not the car manual).

Once you have got the code, do the following:

  1. Hold down both the AM/FM and the SCAN button at the same time, until the display shows "1000".
  2. Use the buttons 1,2,3,4 to change each of the digits until you get displayed the same code as printed on documentation (ensure that it is the right one).
  3. On some radio (programmable models), the default code is "1111" or "1234".
  4. Press and hold the AM/FM and SCAN buttons again until the radio is starting.
  5. If you fail twice the code, the radio will lock up in safe mode, and you won't be able to enter the code again.
  6. If the radio is locked, or if the code is lost, the unlock can be done at the nearest car dealer, usually for a small fee, or for free.

Regards.

Original stereo in audi 1991 90

i have the original book it says anytime the battery is disconnected it will do the lock up and read SAF on the display when this happens you cant use it again untill you unlock it... to unlock it turn the radio on the word safe will be displayed first press the am/fm button and then press the scan button and hold them down simultaneously until "1000" appears in the frequuency display release the buttons DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE CONTINUE HOLDINT THE BUTTONS DOWN OR PRESS THEM ONCE AGAIN THIS WILL CAUSE THE RADIO TO TAKE THE NUMBER "1000" AS THE CODE NUMBER. using the first four radio station buttons enter the code number found on your radio card (the codes you have) use button 1 to set the first digit of the code button 2 to set the second digit etc. the first digit of a four digit code must be "1" if your code number has three digits the first digit on the display must be set blank. Once the code is shown on the display press and hold the am/fm button and scan button simultaneously until the work safe appears in the frequency display release the buttons a radio station frequency will automatically be displayed ... MAKE SURE YOU PUT IN THE RIGHT NUMBER OR YOU WILL LOCK UP THE RADIO AGAIN AFTER 2 TRYS AND WILL HAVE TO WAIT AN HOUR BEFORE YOU CAN RETRY IT. IF YOU LOOSE THE CARD WITH THE NUMBER SEE YOUR AUDI DEALER
