Yes as long as the Motors are the same. You might need to have the computer out of doner car. Doors are suppose to fit 96 to 99.

there is a plug on the shaft-side of the differential. Using a ratchet remove the plug and with the engine OFF, stick your finger inside the hole and you should get fluid just below the threads of where the plug goes in.

steering column bearing sounds like a worn out steering column... jack the front wheels off the ground both sides relieve load on steering wheel to see if it lessens the amount of feel and noise, if it does it shoud be the column bearing, replace bearings or complete column,,, also try with the wheels off the ground and safely supported to manualy steer the wheels by hand and see if you feel in roughness or hear any noises,should some minor resistance but be smooth in it movement if everything suspension and steering component wise is in good working condition... please rate my help.. thanks...

I don't think the dohc engine in your 97 will work. And I'm not saying that because I have a sohc engine for sale. It came out of my 2000 Impreza RS. Unfortunately my daughter totalled the car (she's OK) and I retained the vehicle from the insurance company. the car (and engine) had 120,044 miles at the time of death. the timing belt was done at 105,000. While standing in front of the engine, look towards your back left engine area in the corner of the engine. You will have to take off the intake hoses/air box to see it. the sensor is sticking horizontal to the ground pointing towards the front of the engine. I used a little scope mirror to see it. It will have an automotive connector with a few wires running to it. The sensor should have a brown connector on it. If you need further assistance, type in google about the location and someone on there has taken really good pictures of it. I had to move some hoses and disconnect some wiring harnesses to get to it. Also, there is a relatively decent description in the Haynes manual for replacing it. Let me know how it goes! Should be about $30 at parts store.
