SOURCE: heater doesn't work

Sounds like the heater core is stopped up. Try removing the heater hoses and backflushing the core.If this doesn't work replace the core.

SOURCE: 2002 mercury sable heater wont get hot

you have a broken or stuck temp blend door in the heater case. or the servo motor is broken. this sits on top of the heater case

SOURCE: heater doesn't work

This happens ALL THE TIME!! Heater core is likely plugged with rust, yes. but a garden hose fix will NOT last. and the reserve probably IS cracked on bottom, as most are. They are relatively cheap from Ford, though. Have a REPUTABLE radiator shop do a Genuine Power Flush to the entire cooling system (not an automated fluid exchange many shops claim to be a "flush") and THEN have them unplug the heater in a similar fasion. Now is the time to replace the surge tank (old one is packed with rusty sediment that is usually partially plugging the cracks in it, and not very cost effective to clean anyway). On older, very rusty 2 valve 3.0 systems only other issues are the rear of timing cover gasket often leaks a little, and the water pump impellers can become eroded away (from rust) and water flow suffers. So... watch for residue or dripping from behind water pump. If minimal, a mild leak sealant added to a properly cleaned system with refill and tightening the bolts near leak will do the trick--otherwise timing cover gasket and pump replacement is needed.

SOURCE: 2000 MERCURY SABLE

My 2000 Sable starts blowing hot air about every 6 months. I mean like an oven. All I do is disconnect the battery negative terminal for about 5 minutes. After I re-connect the problem is solved. This solves many problems on this car, it just needs a re-boot. It must be powered by Microsoft (ha ha). Good luck. ps my auto headlamps never did work right either. Dave.

SOURCE: AC blows hot air but AC compressor works

if the compressor works and your freon is charged it may be the blower flapper door....disconnect battery for 10 minutes and then re-connect to reset the electronics that control the flapper

2003 mercury sable blows cool air when heater is turned on.

Most likely it is a clogged heater core. Have your heater core reverse flushed or your blend door is stuck open.

2002 mercury sable ac not blowing but heater works any ideas?

Could be a blender door issue. What a blender door does is mix the cold air from the AC with the hot air from the heater core. If you put the switch ALL THE WAY to hot, the blender door (usually an actuator) pushes the door up and allows only air passing thru the heater core to enter the cabin. If you push all the way to cold, it only allows air from the AC. If you put halfway, it mixes/blends the air...

My heater won't blow hot, just barely warm. AC is fine. I've tried every setting.

you need to take out the heater core and test if that works...to test it it works...blow in one of the pipes and if the air you blew goes out from the other pipe...then the heater core in GOOD...if the air you blew doesn't get out from the other pipe...then you have found the problem!

I have a 2002 Mercury Sable 3.0. I noticed when

The clicking noise is the motor for the "blend door". The heater core and the air conditioning side share the same ducting. When you move the knob a small motor moves the door letting the respective hot or cool flow happen.
The heater core is probably blocked. The engineers at Ford have the coolant hoses bypassing the core with a WYE at the firewall. The coolant takes the path of least resistance and stops FLUSHING the heater core and it eventually clogs.

Hello. You are in luck. I just had this same issue in my shop this week. We changed the thermostat, and replaced the coolant. Fixed it right up. Since you did not mention a new thermostat, that would be my next move, if I were you.

When I turn on the air conditioner it is blowing hot air as if the heater were on. Could it be a fuse? It was working fine yesterday.

heater core is going bad my dodge ram truck did the same thing for about three months then steam startedcoming out of the vents it was antifreeze i have not fixed it yet i just bypassed it for now cause its hot and i have to take the dash completly out to get to it, and yes my airconditioner was blowing out hot now immediatly after i bypassed it blows cold again.you have to find where it goes into the motor on both sides so follow the hoses from firewall then buy a 3ft hose to go from one side of motor to the other problem fixed! well that is you wont have a heater until you change the heater core

2002 mercury sable

The blend door that regulates the airflow over the heater core may be stuck in the AC position. It is inside the case and is most difficult to get to. There may be a YouTube video that may help you locate it and test it.
