Bad 12v power feed , " power distribution"
battery lugs, clean and tight
battery measure, 12.6vdc or more parked. key out.
?
fuses loose?(cracked fuses)
check fuse boxes for damage, corrosion, water intrusion, et cetra?
when it does that, did you scan it? OBD2 scan tool?
consider getting it serviced?

does wiggling the key solve it, or make it worse.
(while ON, wiggle it in that spot)_
do you have huge heavy objects connected to the key ring,? causing for sure damage to the key switch$$$$

Testimonial: "I don't have a scanner but I will go get it done and let you know."

2002 jeep grand cherokee starts for 3 sec then shuts down. key light on dadsh

Plug OBD2 in to the port under the dash if it starts and stays running then in default it'll be your cam sensor if not read the error code and have somebody at your local auto parts store translate that for you.

Key gauge lights up and stays lit while other gauge lights go off/on intermittently. Jeep seemingly runs fine, power windows work, radio works. What to do!

If it is a warning light shaped like a door key, it could be the warning light for the security system. Its telling you there is a problem with the chip in your key or the sensor in the lock cylinder.
Your owner's manual should show all of the warning lights and what they mean.

1998 jeep cherokee

Sounds like it could be a problem with the ignition switch. Does the vehicle stall or keep running? Do the lights go out or do the stay on until you cycle the key? Have you tried Turing the key a little back and forth when this happens to see if the problem goes away?

When jump starting my 99 jeep GC I accidentally hit the negative post with a pos cable (hot) large spark and subsequently it would crank but not start. Sentry key light came on steady as did check engine....

Not sure, but if Sentry Light stay on, by shorting it, the anti-theft system stay on ! Unplug the battery for 30min's reconnect it, and try it again, alot of chance that the anti-theft system will reprogram and will function normally ! You can go to a Local Dealer with your Jeep they will reprogram the system and everything will be fine ! For the Check Engine, need a OBD2 Code Scanner or a Garage/Dealer Scanner to know the Code Stored in the PCM and it will tell if PCM is okay too !

Is there a little key icon staying lit on the right side of your dash? If so it's a sentry key, which is an immobilizer key. You need the gray one to start the Jeep the blacks one is not chipped.

Flasher lights stayed flashing, no gages would work.

Try Re-Activating the Remote System to Lock, Unlock and back to Lock again several times. Does the original problem re-occur? If so there is a problem with the Remote System, and possibly with the Remote itself sticking. Try Lock and Unlock and disconnect the battery. Wait at least 5 to 30-minutes before reconnecting. The remote itself you can take apart and check to see if the depress button is sticking causing the signal to be constantly sent over and over again.
