I have a 2003 Highlander, and the VSC warning light came on along with the check engine light what should i do

I have just had the same problem this morning for the first time and I suspect it is just bad gas. We have had problems with the check engine light in our camaro whenever we bought hi test at the Mobile gas station closest to our home. I would not be surprised if this same gas station is now having water problems with their regular gas which is what we put in our 4runner. Try STP gas treatment first, which is what I am going to do now. When I used this approach with my camaro, the light went out within a few days. Technically, a sensor might have been damaged, but my thinking is that if that sensor is dead, then my fuel/air mixture will get bad enough to notice pretty quick. The TRAC off and VSC off are just extra lights that go on, whenever the check engine light comes on. I'll let you know how it goes.

there are literally hundreds of codes that would turn on the check engine light. the track off and vsc lights come on together, indicating a problem with the traction control system. again, many different items will turn these lights on. the only way to narrow it down is to hook it up to an OBD-II diagnostic tool and find out all the codes that are listed. if you don't have one, take it to a shop

Hello. Many times the check engine light and VSC and trac are all on due to one or more bad sensors as opposed to any serious trouble. Begin by having your car's computer scanned. AAMCO transmission shops now offer a free scan as do some auto parts stores. Begin with that. Joe

you will need to hook up a scan tool, I know many parts stores will loan you one or let you use it in the parking lot, VSC could have something to do with a wheel mounted speed sensor, did you hit something? any noises, try this and see if it goes away
    • 1 Shut off the vehicle's engine and apply the parking brake to protect yourself while working on the vehicle.
    • 2 Open the vehicle's hood and examine the engine compartment. Locate the air filter box mounted to the left of the engine. The air filter box features a black exterior, square in shape, and a large ribbed intake hose.
    • 3 Check all of the small black vacuum lines surrounding the air filter box. Reconnect any disconnected or loose vacuum lines you find.
    • 4 Start the engine and drive the vehicle to clear the "VSC" warning light displayed on the dashboard. If the VSC light fails to go out after driving the vehicle normally, proceed to the next step.
    • 5 Park the vehicle, turn off the engine and set the parking brake. Open the vehicle's hood and disconnect the battery's negative cable for 15 seconds, using an appropriate size socket. Disconnecting the negative battery cable will reset the vehicle's computer and clear the "VSC" warning.

VSC is brake /traction related ..... this is one explanation

It would appear that system braking, traction control, and possibly some anti rollover control is dis abled if this warning light is on. So it is both fuel in efficient and possibly dangerous to drive with this light on.

Why is the engine light and VSC light on in my 2003 Highlander with 136,000 miles.
There is some of a sensor attached to the oil filter assembly, sometimes after regular oil change mechanic forgets to check this connection. So no harm to the engine, but the light stays on. Just ask them to re-connect.
Happened to my Highlander like 5 times :)

you can remove the negative battery terminal for 10 minutes. this will also reset all your adaptive memory. aka the stuff the car learns about your driving habits so if you do this its going to drive a little funny for a bit but it will go back to normal. hope that helps

What is a vsc warning light on a toyota estima hybrid ?
It stands for Vehicle Stability Control When the VSC system takes control it activiates stability correction. The slip indication light flashes while the buzzer activates. The VSC is able to operate at all times except when the centre differential is locked. When the centre differential locks, the VSC-OFF light in the combination meter illuminates to inform the driver that the VSC function has been turned OFF. The centre differential lock is designed for freeing the vehicle if it is stuck in mud for example, however it would be difficult for the vehicle to free itself if the engine output were reduced due to the operation of VSC. you should take your car to a shop where they will use and ob2 connector which will give you specifics on why the code has come up...you can also buy an ob2 connector at a store and try it yourself but it would probably be cheaper to take it to a shop
