Cylinder misfire on #3 Google PO300 codes & study Bad COP Ignition Coils or Ignition Wires, Ignition Module--- depending on motor & ignition system type
when the light flashes, it means that the computer has determined a condition is present and is severe enough to cause damage to the catalyst system. You are most definitely exhibiting a severe cylinder misfire. Without knowing what code is in the computer, one can only guess that it is either a po300, or p0301-306. Most likely culprits are bad ignition coil, severe vacuum leak (pcv tube collapse).
The code P0300 is a random misfire code which means any cylinder and the code P0316 means that there is a misfire code set within the first 1000 revolutions of the engine. Good luck with this problem.
Take it to a parts store, they will check for engine trouble codes for free. They plug a hand held scan tool into the cars computer port under the dash, it reads stored codes on the cars computer. Write them down, ask what they mean, and how to fix the problem. This should solve your 'sputters and no pick up' problem. U can return here to post any questions u may have, include any engine codes.
You can try to replace with a similar unit, but typically Ford ECUs have to be "reflashed" by the dealer. Ford has numerous calibration codes and various other vehicle specific information that can only be managed with Ford certified (dealer) programing devices. I hope this helps
