Hair dryer, and patience. Afterward, a block heater option addition may be in order.

SOURCE: how to adjust rocker arms on 05 chevy equinox

already ?
the standard procedure for adjusting rocker arms on some cars is to adjust them with the engine running. but this is messy.
loosen the nut until you hear clicking n tapping noise, stop.
now turn the nut Tighter a little at a time until you hear the noise stop, then turn the nut 1/4 turn more and move on to next rocker.

this only applies if you have pushrods.

SOURCE: how do you release an air lock in the coolant

2 ways you can by a special tool that release airlock that will vacuum the system of any air or you can do the effective way both will work. Do it this way if you want to get the air out youll need another person in the car to step on the acclerating pedal (no more cable) . 1. block the drive wheel set the e brake on. 2. fill the radiator up as much as it will get. 3. fill the resovoir (its okay to over fill this bottle itll just overflow out) 4. have your helper get in the vehicle and acclerate to 1500 RPM. with the radiator cap open and as you accelerate the coolant will move around youll need to have the cap in the ready position as it will want to come out the radiator. during that time youll cap it. and maintain 1500 RPM. once the car reaches thermostat opening the fuid will sink. at this time feel the radiator hose and command higher RPM and when the radiator hose collapse your safe to open the cap and fill. fill it up. put the cap on ,have the RPM drop to idle feel the radiator hose is it hard. Now because its hard it increased in pressure, because of this pressure you cannot open the radiator unless you want to get wet. Have your helper increase RPM go to 1500 RPM test radiator hose, the moment it collapse is the moment you can add coolant or water add and seal radiator. Let idle due this procedure untill you are sure all air is out, eventually the cooling system will get to the point where you cant do it any more. Here is how the theory work when coolant is under pressure it boils at 110 F if you pressure it 1LBS it increase in temperature radiator cap rated increase the boiling point to 210 F this is the optimum where all sensor go into fuel control. When you do this high RPM method you chase out the air air wants to float out and a the same time water wants to boil so you are chasing and controling two different . arenas. The high RPM propell the fluid to sink and air to rise the putting in idle stabalizes the fluid and air and allows it to seek a natural enviroment. you have 3 tools in your hand the radiator cap, the RPM control, adding of fluid. This works for me I just dont want to buy tool.

[check fans possible bad sensor or fan motor ]<<< most likely problem/or radiator and reservoir may need to be flushed the 05 was known for having radiator hose problems the hoses in some would deteriorate causing a smell and overheating problems --the other 05 problem was head gasket which can cause the overheat problem but u would have other symptoms rough idle ,steam from tailpipe, oil level high and looking like chocolate milk the 05 problems usually caused the problems early in ownership within 10,000 miles and recheck stat and pump new doesnt mean free from defects
