Where is the oil sending unit on a 2011 equinox located

Oil light came on said pressure low shut down engine

SOURCE: locate the oil sending unit on a 2003 6.0 2500HD silverado

You will find it down by the oil filter.

the oil sending unit is located at the back of the motor right below the rotor cap it is about 3 inches long and has a 3 wire plug hooked t it

This is an idication of a severe oil leak. Check the oil level in your engine to see if there is any in it. Add to the full mark and return to the oil change shop and ask them to see where the leak is. Do not operate without oil. Severe engine damage will occur. Hope this helps Moe

could be a few things-(if oil pressure is showing low usually under 20 lbs recheck oil level) bad sensor,oil pump,low oil level ,sludge have truck scanned for trouble code some stores such as auto zone / advanced auto scan for free

Engine oil light flashing
Flashing oil light indicates a loss of oil pressure. No oil pressure will cause the engine to seize up. Check the oil level, if full verify that the oil sending unit is connected correctly. Listen for unusual engine noise (Shut down immediately to avoid damage to the engine), connect an oil pressure gauge to the oil sending port (remove sending unit) and verify oil pressure. the issue could be a loose connection, broken connection or plugged sending unit, as well as loss of oil pressure.

Oil light comes on and is dinging.
The oil light has nothing to do will oil level, but rather oil PRESSURE. If the engine oil is full and there is no rattling or banging noises in the engine, chances are the oil pressure sending unit is bad. If noises accompany the light, then shut down the engine and troubleshooting the engines internal lubrication system.

Here's a link to your oil pressure switch,here's the part.As you can see there are 2 types,one for light and one for gauge.
  • When the oil pressure is either high or low it will either turn the oil light "on" in the dash or move the gauge to the extremes

I have a 2007 chevy silverado. It was low on oil. I put 2 quarts in, oil light went off. When I drove it the low oil pressure light came on and also said engine shut down. What could be causing this...
If its reading low oil pressure I would first change your oil and filter.A clogged oil filter will cause your oil pressure to drop.Also remove your pressure sending unit and hook up a direct oil pressure guage to see what your actual pressure is.Its very possible that your oil pump could be bad.Those would be the most probable reasons for low oil pressure.The engine shut down means that your your engine has a fail safe to protect your motor from blowing up.

The oil pressure sending unit is located on the engine block, passenger side by the Distributor. Good luck and make sure you get the right sending unit, there is the simple unit that only turns on a low oil pressure light and the other will send signals to the oil pressure gauge.

Only 1.5 qts low would not shut the engine off. It sounds like your oil pressure sending unit needs to be replaced. If the Oil pressure sending unit reads less then 8 psi or thinks there is less then 8 psi the ECM will shut the engine off. It's a simple fix and the sending unit is on the drivers side behind the distributor on the engine block. You can pick one up from Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the unit. As long as there was no bad noises coming from the engine when it shut down, it should be a simple fix. If there was any bad noises coming from the engine, then your oil pump may have gone bad and will need to be replaced and hope nothing else has failed or have gotten damaged due to lack of oil pressure.
