any own with 22 year old car and drove it for 22 year
will hear noises for sure not serviced/.
we can guess what is knocking 3000 parts to a car.
engine or trans, brakes or suspension, wheel bearings or what/
why not ask the living this, in person called a shop.
we are blind and deaf here, so all we can to is guess wrong.

EGR fails and engine knocks.
in the engine --spinning main bearing shell
in the body , strut upper bearing rubber failure , sway bar bushes , suspension bushes
bad exhaust system-- rubber hangers
Do you have an Oil Pressure gauge? If not you may want o have one installed (even temporarily). After the vehicle sits overnight, start it and see how long it takes to get pressure. If it is the same amount of time that the engine knocks, then you may want to start looking for another engine. If oil pressure is okay, you might have a bad wrist pin, which can make noise for years without any other problems. Now if the noise is a "ticking" then.............
Check the Battery and Connections. Not a lot of Guess work on the Old Mustangs. You may need to Clean the Cables to the Battery, Could be a Little Corroded. Please rate my Response, I need all the Help that I can get! Thanks!
