On a 2007 Saturn Ion2 automatic

If its an automatic trans check the fluid. If its black instead of red your trans is toast. If color is ok check oil level with engine running and trans in neutral (park)

If automatic there will be a dipstick tube right under where the air box is. It will have a red handle on the dipstick. Fluid should be checked with the engine up to temp, the trans in neutral, and the vehicle on a level surface. fluid can be added through the dipstick tube.

THE 5 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

At the bottom of the automatic gearbox (tiptronic) you will find one threaded plug on below surface, (follow red arrow in the picture below). This is for emptying.




The oil level threaded plug is placed on the car front lateral automatic gearbox surface, (follow yellow arrow in the picture below).



The filling oil plug is placed on the upper automatic gearbox surface, (follow green arrow in the picture below).


Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) checking:
1. Requirements for check:
1.1. Vehicle standing on level surface.
1.2. Transmission must not be in fail-safe mode.
1.3. Shift lever in "P" position, parking brake applied.
1.4. Engine idling.
1.5. Air Conditioner and heater OFF.
1.6. ATF temperature must not exceed 104 Fahrenheit degree (40 Celsius degree) at start of test.
1.7. Automatic gearbox oil capacity: 2,5 liter. Only ATF with VW designation may be used. Do not use any lubricant additives.
1.8. Automatic Transmission Fluid ATF - part number: VW G 052 990 A2
1.9. An ATF level check when transmission oil temperature is too low results in overfilling, when too high results in underfilling.
2. CAUTION: Too much or too little ATF will affect the operation of the transmission. The ATF level must be checked at regular intervals.

If your car with 5 speed automatic transmission there are special dipstick for it, it only have with dealers workshop, drive there and ask them need to check trans oil, if u found right dipstick you can check it your self, trans mission dipstick tube locate at back side the engine at right of middle, dipstick tube have covered by black cap with read lock, first you have to brake read lock and push remain read plastic lock inside the cap by small flat screw driver, and open cap, then keep engine running and check oil level if your car trans oil cold it should be the cold level on dipstick for check trans oil you must have better knowledge for that it mean oil level be deference and deference temperature better ask mechanic to check it, if your car have the 7speed trans mission you can't check oil level because it's need to plug diagnostics computer in to the your car and get trans oil in to 45 degree temperature, The oil temperature can check only diagnose CPU and also after rich the 45 degree temp need to open drain plug screw and check level for do this must need to get experience technicians service, is this information helped you?

There is a plug on the passenger side of the transmission by the drive axle It is 11mm bolt. start the vehicle in park on a level surface or hoist...at operating temp pull out the plug Fluid should just trickle out of the plug hole If no fluid comes out add fluid to trans until it does...Where do you add??? Red plug on top/center of trans. Plastic plugthat threads in Add fluid there....Good luck

To check engine oil level engine needs to be off, if check while engine running, oil will splash inside oil pan and all over your dip stick giving you bad reading, Check oil level with engine off and add to full mark on oil dip stick. Running engine with low oil will cause major damage to your engine. To check transmission level engine needs to be running at normal engine temp.

ATF level is checked when the engine is running and the transmission is at normal operating temperature. Using the dip stick, determine the level. The level should be within or near the upper HOT mark.

there is no dipstick. the fluid must be checked from under the vehicle. fluid must be at 209* f.
or trans will be overfilled. there is a plug on the right end of the trans( 7/16" )& must be removed with engine running, if at proper temp & fluid comes out then trans is full.

I assume that you have a 6 cyl.There are two plugs on the trans pan.the big one is the drain and the small one is the check plug.There is a fill on the side.The trans uses ws fluid which is what you need to use.What i do is remove the check plug and add fluid until it comes out.Then start the engine and let it warm up, the recomended temp is 97 to 115 degrees f or 36 to 46 degrees c.As it warms up the fluid will come out,once it reaches the temp range put the plug back in.I use a computer to monitor the temp but a temp gun on the pan will do.
