Hi, I live in the UK and recently bought a used 2006 RX8 for my partner. The engine ran, but sounded lumpy on idle. When i took it to the dealer he drove the vehicle and said it was way down on power. He went on to explain that the rotary engine had a very short life expectancy (average 60K miles). The problem apparently lies with the rotary wiper blades which effectively seal the combustion chamber as the rotor rotates eccentrically around the cylinder creating compression. These blades wear if not lubricated well and end up damaging the nickle chamber liner. The engines are very oil thirsty and must be serviced regularly. If an oil change is late it can drastically reduce the engines life expectancy even further. In the UK Mazda will not honor any warranty claims on the engine. However, in the US, Mazda have agreed to change out defective motors that have been serviced regularly by a Mazda dealer. I wish you well because they are an awesome car when running right :)Hi, I live in the UK and recently bought a used 2006 RX8 for my partner. The engine ran, but sounded lumpy on idle. I'm sorry, a bit of googling revealed that this was only honored up to 2012 on a 2004 model. Im afraid it will be an engine rebuild required at your expense. May be worth calling Mazda to see if they may offer a good will contribution?

I’ve had a lot of experience with Mazda RX-8’s... Because I owned one. But your problem could just be the seals of the Rotary.. Try to replace those...

Service manual in the link, but for your electrical problem, you will need a mobile auto electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer to diagnose the issue.
take it back! it sounds like a common prob with wankel rotary engines the lobe seals are failing but check the spark plugs are correct and in the correct order they are different for each combustion space
I had this problem. Twice! It sounded like it wanted to turn over but couldn't. Your engine may be flooded. I had to have mine towed to the mazda dealer (if under 100,000 miles it is under warrenty) so they could fix it. The second time they had to replace my engine because of a bad compression ring.
I have a 2005 mazda rx 8. I went out to crank it up yesterday day and it would not fire. I had started up on Saturday just fine. What could be the problem?
flooded engine common problem remove all plugs and fuel pump fuse. get fuel out of engine do not istall fuel pump fuse re install all plugs I suggest a good charger be used as system can kill batt very quick run to wires from fuel pump fuse into seating area start cranking the engine over wires not touching once compression sounds alright touch wires to geather (may have to repeat these deflooding wire touching procedure many times) once started do not turn off car till normal operating temp . Once hot turn car off remove wires and re install fuel pump fuse .With RX-8 u cannot just start and stop car right away as in washing car as it can produce this same condition ALWAYS let car warm up before turning off.
if u happen 2 have an amp and subwoofers it will drain ur battery over time without a compasitor.as far as the screeching try rubbing a bar of soap on the inside of the belts while the car is off.also check spark plugs are at the right gap specs.
