Have you changed the fuel filter? Did it die while driving, or just wouldn't start? Don't use starting fluid on a gas engine! It will cause a lot more problems than it solves. Ether, starting fluid is made for diesel engines... not gas, not ever. If it won't start, it isn't lacking ether. It's lacking gas, air or spark.

My 2001 chevy malibu had been working fine up until this afternoon it turns but wont start, itmakes ahumming noise even when i turnoff key.

That humming noise may be your fuel pump burning out. Try turning the key to the on position while someone else listens near the gas tank. The humming should only hum for a few seconds so you won't have time to listen yourself unless you can hear it from inside. If the hum continues and doesnt shut off, it is likely a bad fuel pump. It is normal to hear a small hum for a couple of seconds , but when it starts getting weak, it will hum louder, longer, or not at all

Not getting fuel to the engine on my 2001 chevy blazer

you must be getting fuel, remove fuel line @ engine, have someone crank the engine, then you'll know, NO SMOKING ! if no fuel, check fuel pump relay ! check all fuses . pump should hum for only 2 seconds, when key is turned to ON position. to prime the system. always check all ground wires to fuel system. important ! good luck

My chevy malibu wont start. it turns over but wont start. tried new battery, not the problem. changed fuel filter, still the same thing, turns over, but wont start.

Hey Debbie. When a car wont start, there can be many things that can cause this. It can get real frustrating real quick. I will give you some things that it may be. If you are good at cars, you need to test for fuel and spark. Make sure fuel is going to the engine and make sure your ignition is sparking. If you are not good on cars, check these. Make sure your fuel pump is kicking on when you first turn the key. You should hear a humming sound for a second or two. If you do, the pump is working. If not, it may be bad. If you haven't changed the fuel filter in a long time, it may be clogged. A filter is cheap, usually 10-20 dollars. A fuel pump is 100-200 dollars. Check your air filter and make sure the engine is getting air. The filter may be clogged/real dirty. You could check the fuel pump fuse/relay, only if you didn't hear the pump. Your timing belt may have broke. You need to spray starter fluid into your carburetor. You will have to take off the air hose to do so. Once you spray it in, try to start the car. If it starts and dies, you have a fuel issue. If it stays the same and doesn't start, you will have to check the ignition system. This included the spark plugs/coils, distributor, dist.cap, rotor, cam sensor , crank sensor, ecm. I know it is a lot to take in but it could be any of these. Let me know if you know the engine good. There are things you can check, if you know how to check them. The only way to check for the problem is by checking each possibility. If you have a question Debbie, let me know. I am here to help. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

2001 Chevy Malibu the car cranks but wont start I can hear the whine of the fuel pump coming on when I engage the ignition switch to on position, I can prime it and it will run for a few seconds...

sounds like a security problem-if the light is flashing leave the key turned on for about 10 min. until light stops flashing and then try to start engine-if this works you need to replace the pass loc sensor(ignition cylinder and housing)

2001 Chevy Malibu.. Tried to start car but get absolutly no response, no fuel pump hum, no lights, no clicks no sound from engine as if the car has no battery.. Removed the key and the RPM gauge shot up to...

Try shifting into neutral and pressing on the brake while turning your key. Sometimes when I'm in park my shifter doesn't make the switch that says I'm in park, if I turn the key...nothing....cause my car "thinks" it's in gear.

2000 Chevy Malibu, I have to crank it several times before it will start. The engine has also stalled on me a couple of times while driving. It has 140,000 miles. Regular oil changes. Battery is good....

Can you hear the fuel pump hum for a couple of seconds when you turn key to ON? Seems like a possible fuel starvation issue. If fuel pump hums, the filter may need replacing.
