If your key will not come out of the ignition switch then the lock mechanism inside it is already bad and will need to be replaced. There is a good possibility that your vehicle not shifting out of park is related to that as well.
Carefully pry the cover from around the shifter, usually rear toward front easiest. Then you will see the light fixture. If you still don't see it and need to you can remove the 2 screws at the rear which release the cover from floor pan. then you can lift it to reach easier. Hope this helps and have a good day.
Would need to know more. Did the 'check engine' light come on about the time you first noticed this happening? If so, have the code checked for diagnosis. I would suspect FUEL TRIM error (or similar) in the computer compensating the fuel injection when the car is put in gear versus in Park or Neutral when cold.
