Drain and fill is about 5 and 1/2 quarts. Start with 4 and 1/2. Start it and get to operate temperature. Shut it off and check the fluid. Add till between the v marks.

What type of transmission fluid do I put in a 1998 Honda Passport

If it is an automatic Honda recommends you only use their own brand fluid, the same may apply for a standard transmission. You can't go wrong if you buy the fluid from a Honda dealer.

Type of fluid for a 1998 Honda passport transmission

you did not state the type of transmission that you have, assuming that it is an automatic transmission.
the transmission used in the Passport models is an Isuzu transmission, so it requires inexpensive and easily available Dexron/Mercon fluid. not special Honda ZF fluid that all other Honda transmissions require. another person said that they use Dexron3 fluid in theirs.
the capacity for the automatic trans. 2 & 4 wheel drive are 9.1 US quarts.

How do i find the transmission fluid dip stick on a 2001 honda passport?

There is no dipstick. The engine and transmission was designed by Isuzu up till 2002, and the automatic transmission was a sealed, no-maint. transmission. You will either need to purchase the special tools needed, or...........that's right, go to a transmission shop!!!

How do you check trans fuild on honda passport 2001

Sorry to tell you this, but there is no dipstick. Honda says this in its maintenance materials:
Check automatic transmission fluid level only if leakage is suspected.
Automatic transmission has no dipstick, so fluid level can only be
measured by checking fluid temperature with a PGM Tester and removing
the overfill screw. Refer to the Service Manual for details.

1998 honda passport auto transmission slips

CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO SEE IF IT IS LOW. THERE SHOULD BE A COLD LEVEL AND A HOT LEVEL. WITH THE TRANS IN PARK AND HOT, ENGINE RUNNING PULL THE DIPSTICK TO SEE IF THE TRANS NEEDS FLUID. WHEN ADDING, MAKE SURE THE PROPER FLUID IS USED. IF THE TRANS FLUID LEVEL IS OK BUT THE TRANS FLUID SMELLS BURNED OR IS VERY DARK THEN HAVE THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED WITH FLUID AND FILTER. I HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND FOR ANY COMMENTS. BEST OF LUCK

I need a diagram of how to put transmission in 98 honda passport

If you have an automatic transmission, you should take it to a mechanic or at least purchase the special fluid temperature gauge needed to do it right. You add fluid through the overfill screw opening found on the transmission fluid pan (there is no dipstick or underhood component on the 96' and later models). It should be located in one corner of the pan; there's also a drain plug is more toward the middle. Never open the overfill screw with the engine stopped - it should always be running and warm.

For a manual transmission, the fill plug is also on the pan, but it is located on the side.

I have a 98 honda passport that i need to put transmission fluid in but i need a diagram to make sure i'm putting it in the rite whole

(Duplicate Question = Duplicate Answer)

If you have an automatic transmission, you should take it to a mechanic or at least purchase the special fluid temperature gauge needed to do it right. You add fluid through the overfill screw opening found on the transmission fluid pan (there is no dipstick or underhood component on the 96' and later models). Again I say: beg, borrow, buy, or steal a temperature gauge if you have an automatic. Add the new fluid with a small pump or syringe only when the gauge reads between 90 and 135 degrees F.

For a manual transmission, the fill plug is also on the pan, but it is located on the side.

How do you put in transmission fluid?

Unfortunately, you have a closed system transmission, there is no dipstick or filler tube. I have a 96 passport and to have fluid replaced in the transmission you need to take it to a garage that is equipped to fill closed transmissions. This generally runs about $100.00 at the dealership. I was on my way to get my transmission serviced when the trans broke. Don't wait long if you're having issues.
