Do you mean the timing belt? If so, what year is your car and which size engine does it have?

Timing belts can be purchased for as little as $20, but most people also replace a few other components, like the tensioner, idler pully (if any), and water pump (depending on the car). Those items can add up to another $100-$300.

The labor cost to replace a timing belt is what makes it expensive. If the belt has broken, you may also need some serious engine work.

Ford Focus - 12 years old, broke timing belt. The garage is saying I need a complete new cylinder head. I suspected it was the timing belt and expected several bent valves at worst. My question is...

Here at my repair shop have never had to replace a cylinder head, due to timing belt failure, just replace bent valve's and machine head.

2001 ford focus new timming belt installed and timming set right car cranks but wont start at all...

Remove the timing belt cover. Set the crankshaft/piston in the correct position. Now check to see if the camshaft sprocket is align with the witness mark. Both the crankshaft and camshaft has to be aligned else your timing is off and you will have to take the belt off and re-installed correctly. Even if off 1 notch.

Hopefully you will never buy another car with a timing belt. It's a false economy saving.

Ford Focus seatbelt locked

There is a gas cylinder that tightens the belt in a minor collision, it is a one time use part it is independent of the air bag deployment system, you will have to replace the seat belt gas cylinder, that may mean a new belt assembly, not sure on focus.
