The flasher unit for the four ways is separate from the turn signal.
If the rear light is flashing fast means the front light is malfunctioning. Check all wiring from the dash to the light itself. I had one a wire was pinched and had broken
the switch is at the end of the handle but more common to fail is the flasher unit the flasher unit will cause the turn signal light to turn on and not flash if they flash fast check the bulbs ii the flasher is a small can shaped part under the dash near the base of the steering colum there is two one for the 4 way flashers and one for the turn signals
I would check your brake light swich located under dash just fallow your brake pedle with a test light see if you have power going to it slitely press brake pedle see if other side of switch has power (key on car not running) if not try ajusting it by pulling on it or unscewing it if all checks out ok replace turn signal switch disconnect battery remove center part of steerring remove center bolt with steerring puller pull steering wheel with locking plate puller pull locking plate remove turn signal handle emergency button three scews holding turn signal under dash fallow steering colum disconect wires on right side (passenger side) tape a long wire to end of connector pull turn signal without pulling tape wire all the way out so you can tape it to new turn signal wire connector to be able to pull wires back down steerring colume (you might have to losen steerring colume and bracket two scews under dash four on steering colume)
Beware...some GM cars , especially 94-96 were made with two flashers in them. One was for the emergency flashers and the other was for the directional. If you flashers are located under the dash by the steering wheel look around you will see the other one. Be sure to replace it with the proper one.
sounds like the awitch is bad ....first check connection in the steering colume....where the switch plugs in ....the turn signal switches themselfs do go bad
you descibed problem pretty well. I would turn right signal on and follow the wiring and gently wiggle the wires.and notice when it starts blinking normal speed. really check the bulb socket really close. ck the the wires for voltage a few inches away from the socket.
try your emergency flashers, do they blink at a normal speed? if yes, replace flasher for turn signals.if not check the bulbs on the side that blinks fastest, even if they look good there could be a broken filiment.tap on the bulb, if the filiment moves it's a bad bulb.
For this modle and year the turn signal flasher should be mounted in a clip on the right side of the steering column support bracket. The hazard flasher is located under the instrument panel in the module block, on the right side.
Hope this helps,
