This sounds like a fuse problem. Keep in mind that sometime a fuse will look ok when it is blown. You need to check them out with a voltmeter set on resistance. If the fuses are ok then the next thing I would check is a bundle of wires leading to the gauges that are not connected. A plug may be unplugged. If you don't find anything unplugged then you need to check the wires leading the troubled gauges to see if there is voltage with your volt meter. If you get voltage then gauges should work. If you don't have voltage you will have to follow the wires back toward the fuses and then back towards the battery. Good luck!

SOURCE: rev counter, speedo & sometimes fuel & temp guage not working

pull the instrument cluster out and check the printed circuit and connector to it from harness, plug it in and out three or four times, this may cure the problem.

SOURCE: engine warning light , battery light, warning

My 04 Ford Focus the battery light keeps coming on & going off, have fitted a new alternator belt but it didn't solve the problem. The battery connections are good. Also the rev counter, speedo & mileage clock keep going haywire when the battery light is on. Do you think it is the alternator? Or is it some other common problem?

SOURCE: ford bantam rocam 1.6i speedo, temperature gauge and rev counter not working

Sometimes when the batery of vehicle goes flat or when u fit a new car batery to the bantams they love to give that problems like gauges not working rpm not working speedo not working and cluster display is dead, u disconect the batery termanils and for example fit positive termanil and arc. Or short til that blue spark occur then u swop around negative on and arc positive, leave the ignition switched on arc til gauges move!! Don't ask me why but that happend to me! A autoelek friend of mine showed me this! NB don't tri this with vehicles with a lot of elektric featers it can cause demage to ecu (engine control unit)

I.6 Rocam idling too high. What could be the cause and how do I fix it?

If you have an electrical fault and the battery is low, the ECU will increase tickover to help charge the battery.
If the alternator is not charging, the high tickover will continue. The high tiskover could also be an air leak in the intake side of the engine. Check the OBD codes.

After changing the top gasket of my rocam 1.6 engine the engine idles smoothly but if i try to ref the engine it just smudders

Sounds like your mixture is wrong, probably too rich. If there's more smoke than normal when you do rev it then it's too rich a fuel mixture. To rev it try blipping the throttle before you go for a full rev to try to clear out any excess fuel. If the reason you changed the head gasket was because the old one was leaking then the odds are that the new one is now sealing the system but your settings are now out as the settings to get it to run properly with a leaking gasket are different.

My speedos stopped working also rev counter temp gage and fuel also indicators any ideas

Pull the Instrument panel(IP). unplug it, then plug it back in. See if it comes back to life, corrosion. If not, replace the IP. Year make and model helps.

Instument pannel keeps going out speedo rev counter fuel gauge

The cluster is really a computer module, so what needs is first make sure the signal for this gages are reaching the cluster if they are then the cluster needs repair, if not you may have a defective fuel level sensor and a problem with the vehicle speed sensor. Flip a coin, the sensor issues will be the most costly as the fuel tank must come out for replacement of the level sensor, that runs many hours of labor.

You may just want to replace the cluster. The back of the cluster is actually a circuit board, so replacing it, even with a salvage yard cluster, will more than likely fix your issue. Not too hard to replace, either, as long as you are patient!!

Why won't my car start?

Run diagnostics on the "old car". You can still access possible trouble codes through the key switch, and have 2 digit trouble codes flash out from the check engine light. Here, for the procedure: http://www.2carpros.com/articles/retrieve-trouble-codes-for-chrysler-dodge-plymouth-odb1-1995-and-earlier-car-mini-van-and-light-trucks

Beyond that, it is basic diagnostics. Check fuel pressure, check for gas and spark at the cylinders. Test the fuel injection circuit.Test the ignition coil. Test sensors for proper operation. A mechanic with a multi-meter can do a ton of diagnostics. I don't get it, does your mechanic only work on new cars?.

Won't turn over. The instrument cluster won't work

ok iif the instrument cluster does not work.. before i give a solution can you tell me if it have atach and temp gage not a temp gage witha idiot light but a actual temp gage.. because if temp gage and fule gage hands are not in their proper place like if yo uhave a 1/4 tank of gas and it reads way past full and the temp gage is gone out of site way past say 240 degrees then it is your speedo head .. have this trouble the other day on a chevy 2002 cavalier.. replaced the head and wahla the car started. it seems the speedo head is tied in with the computer system on these cars.. and if the tach is not working you need not worry if you cannot find a head with a built in tach.. a normal speedo head with out the tach part will also work.. just when you change the head count the pins on the old one and compare it to the new one if they match then just plug it in and car should start..
